Sometimes it's nice to just unplug and sit in nature with a good book. Bauxite's got herself a Terry Pratchett novel.

Ai being pushed on us so ferociously is a reminder that companies will always sell us shit they know is bad for us with a smile. Here are some vintage ads for plastic, Cigarettes (endorsed by a Dr), and Candy as a source of healthy energy. Oh! Can't forget the magic of asbestos!

While "once a government takes away your rights, it will never give them back" is generally true, it hides the fact that you can TAKE them back.
I really want to emphasize that this is a winnable fight, but everyone has to chip in in order to do so! Please dont sit it out expecting others to stand in your place!

And dont ignore local/state level stuff! As these state laws get overturned, the narrative behind the Fed ones lose steam!
#SaveSpeech

Netchoice won their legal battle against Age verification in louisiana! This follows similar rulings in AK and OH!

This is huge!

These laws can be stopped, they can be overturned. Do not give in to dooming! Keep calling your reps and support orgs that fight these laws in court!

USDA plans to give Palantir a no-bid contract for AI "data integration" for the National Farm Security Action Plan which notably highlights SNAP 'fraud.'

So Palantir AI will ingest "key user data previously submitted by applicants" to "conduct security checks."

It'll cost up to $300 million.

About 26,875 residents across Washington state remain under an evacuation order or advisory due to flooding.
Live updates: Western Washington braces for more rain and flooding this week
Western Washington is once again bracing for heavy rain and gusting winds through Wednesday, as more atmospheric rivers arrive. More flooding is also expected as more rain pelts the region and mountain dams release water to free up reservoir space. It's once again all eyes on the Skagit River. Forecasters predict it'll crest above major flood stage in Concrete early Tuesday morning, then hit downstream in Mount Vernon that evening. Residents in an area of Auburn were given a "GO NOW" evacuation notice late on Saturday, Dec. 13 as the Green River continued to rise. A portion of SR 167 between Auburn and Kent was closed. Areas affected by heavy rainfall are at an increased risk of landslides and mudslides. Officials have advised visitors of burned areas this weekend to take extra precautions. The Trump administration on Friday approved Washington state’s appeal for federal disaster assistance, quelling some anxiety over whether the state would receive federal assistance. View KUOW's developing list of flooding resources here. See flood updates from Thursday, Dec. 11 here.

Notice how this post starts off by saying “creatives should like AI because it streamlines their work” and then immediately pivots back to “those evil artists are gatekeeping creativity and I should be able to push a button to make art because I’m an Ideas Guy”
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone

- tech is now more expensive
- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.
