"Parent's rights" one of the most insidious ideas out there, parents don't have rights they have responsibilities. Children are people not property.

I've seen people say "it's basically the same as the old one, what's the big deal?"

1) they're now also tracking geo-location data and 2) it's owned by one of Trump's best buds

The app has fundamentally changed and thus isn't safe

So I'm editing the next episode of @whatchadoingpod.bsky.social I'm leaving in a bit of vulnerability, where I talk about the difficulty I face expressing myself properly in queer spaces as a white masc person...

And then I immediately chickened out on the question I wanted to ask and softballed it

NULL_SPACE is coming out in 🚨 a week and a half 🚨 so let's talk about something else: Trouble, with a capital T.
It's been a bit! NULL_SPACE is coming out in 🚨 three weeks 🚨 so let's get into how one of the core interesting mechanical ideas, Complex Challenges, works.

🧵
Valiant Horizon is a game very much about tactical combat though. This one doesn't even have a combat system as such! Instead, all obstacles in your way are handled using an extremely flexible and intuitive challenge/complication system. It can trivially be molded into whatever shape you'd like.

I think what's really funny about this take is being able to divide your brain in half, such that you can believe that these two realities could co-habitat.

Ensuring safety for the community REQUIRES sacrifices of individual freedoms. Parents aren't special cases exempt from this
I do think parents should absolutely have the right to choose not to vaccinate their kids.

I also think schools, sports teams, and other clubs or activities should absolutely have the right to exclude those who don’t want to participate in keeping these communities safe by getting vaccinated.

I feel like a lot of this idea of "you need to sound like this to be professional" is literally coming from advertising from these companies! Grammarly has spent millions making people insecure about their writing!
LLM writing grates on me, I hate it. but for a lot of people, it's better at outputting a particular academic/workplace-appropriate style than they are. we don't just need to push back on AI, we need to push back on the ideas about what's desirable in text

A fresh one from me! I wrote about fandom, what characters "deserve," lesbians and our desire to Return To The Past.

What does it mean to wind back the clock and why does that seem to be *the* thing many folks want from art now?

A Game Doesn't Need To Be ‘By And For Fans’
Life Is Strange: Reunion could be a story that grapples with old choices and mistakes, or it could be one that tells fans and characters they "deserve" stories that make everything OK

This is really interesting to me because in my experience, AAA devs *aren’t* inspired (enough) by other games. It’s all movies all the time.

It’s one of the most frequently occurring conflicts in AAA studios: make it more like a movie v. make it more playable
The author of the novels that inspired Shin Megami Tensei and Persona says developers should take more inspiration from other media to invent new gameplay systems.

If they only take inspiration from games they'll just make the same games, he says.
