The lingering shadow of epidemics: post-acute sequelae across history
The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has drawn global attention to post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), with millions affected by post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC, or Long COVID). While Long COVID is newly ...

Scientists at Yale say long COVID is part of a “long-established family of post-acute infection syndromes.” The biggest challenge is understanding its “underlying pathobiology.” They were “surprised” how often children are affected, noting kids are also vulnerable to “long-term effects.”

Just sent out this post. For Europeans to start looking after their own security one step seems vital, they need to stop genuflecting to official Washington, which always "hopewashes" the policies of Donald Trump. Unless Europe can think for itself, it will fail. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Gotta admit "the font is DEI" is a stage of absurdity I could not have predicted
Marco Rubio ordered diplomats to return to using Times New Roman font in official communications, calling his predecessor's decision to adopt Calibri a “wasteful” diversity move
Rubio Stages Font Coup: Times New Roman Ousts Calibri
The secretary of state called it a "wasteful" diversity move, according to an internal department cable seen by Reuters.

And yes, there absolutely were people like this when there were calls to clean drinking water, develop safety standards for cars, remove asbestos, ban smoking, and every other public health measure ever.

Should I brace myself for the announcement of the Eurovision Peace Prize going to Benjamin Netanyahu?
so the EBU is allowing Israel to participate in Eurovision 2026 and a bunch of countries are dropping out as a result. unfortunately both SVT and Yle have confirmed they’re participating which means i have to be A Hater towards Swedish and Finnish bureaucracy once again

You gotta love the "nationalists" turning into your prototypical globalists when it comes to their money.

With the new U.S. national security strategy (“NSC-88”), I think it is high time to ban Twitter in the EU altogether. At the very least, what the ever loving hell are our politicians doing there anymore?

They provide material for a system that will be used to attack us.

Here is an example 🧵 on how confounding factors make population level analysis very hard. When analyzing an intervention, you have to know the baseline for all the groups, before the intervention, to be able to draw any conclusions after the intervention.
Quick warning: The @epiphare.bsky.social study on vax/unvaxed mortality in France is very interesting

However, it does not show "covid vax does not increase mortality" as claimed by its president

For that, one would need to know the relationship of mortality BEFORE VAX and this is not available

This is still the ugly truth that probably is talked about behind closed doors, but is IMHO necessary to understand widely.

Once active fighting ceases in Ukraine, it won't take long before there will be grumbling about the costs of beefing up the defences of small Eastern European states.
The fundamental problem in common European defence is that Russia simply isn't an existential threat to voters west of river Oder.

Yes, Russia grabbing its old imperial sphere of influence the Kremlin so desires would probably be bad for the rest of Europe in many ways.

But in a diffuse way.

At the point when money comes to be the end, rather than the means, being rich becomes a nihilistic vicious circle.

As JV Stalin would put it, in EBM, it's not the evidence that matters, it's the people who tally the evidence.
...people like Trump, Kulldorf, Bhattacharya, Prasad, RFK etc love GRADE and "Evidence Based Medicine". None of that pesky rigour that makes science such a pain to deal with.

In EBM/GRADE you just grade up here, downgrade there, and bury your screwups under BS about "the totality of the evidence".

At a minimum, please wear a well-fitting mask in airports and on planes, and in healthcare settings. If people did this, COVID transmission would fall demonstrably. It’s not that hard, and it’s not all or nothing. It’s also not just a cold—it’s an organ-damaging virus.
It’s been six years since the first reported case of SARSCov2.

It’s never too late to wear a mask.

It’s never too late to clean the air.

Every infection avoided or delayed is a win for long term health.

We can drastically reduce transmission if everyone does their part.

To a large extent "thanks" to the most right-wing government in Finland's history.

#OTD, 30 Nov 1939, the hordes of the Kremlin invaded #Finland.
What strikes me in the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine are the similarities to the Winter War (1939-40) against Finland. However, I'm afraid the end result could be similar as well - but it doesn't need to be. A THREAD.
