An unprocessed trauma that I often forget that I have is that, as an elder queer, I am sometimes surprised when I see people being unguarded in their visible queerness.

I am a confident very-nearly-50yo out gay man. I hadn't realised growing up in the 1980s and 1990s had had that impact on me.

Genres aren't real. They are mental projections we impose on stories to simplify the way talk about and sell them but stories come unshaped from deep within us and writers shouldn't feel constrained by or even respect genres at all. The story comes first.

It's incredibly easy to fix the Colossus/Kitty age gap issue by saying Piotr lied about his age. If you worry that means the bereaved ladies he had a threesome with in the Savage Land or Sasjzi (or whatever-her-name was) were predators we can find workarounds for that too.
