The Dean received a standing ovation from the congregation for his sermon this morning
Whether you’re a believer or not, today’s sermon from the Dean of Southwark Cathedral on sexuality, love, acceptance and how badly wrong much of the C of E is going on the topic is compelling viewing youtu.be/LLM_J8YH8Fk?...

oh they do, it's just whenever it's convenient to let rip for their narrative (partner was a journo and we tipped someone off on the Tom Moore stuff but it was at the peak of his national moment!)

as soon as the Captain Sir Tom Moore gin hit the shelves me and my partner went straight to that website to see what the hell was going on, so many little offshoot and terminated businesses going on between the daughter and son-in-law...so much in plain sight!

Kind of funny that publishing solved the problem of people not buying novellas or story collections by simply calling them "novels." It totally works. Turns out people just really like the word "novel" I guess.
And the situation in the US where Trump is just ignoring the constitution (with the help of the speaker whose keeping Congress in recess) shows it doesn't necessarily solve anything

By proceeding with purchasing a jet ski before seeking approval from my spouse, I forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."
By proceeding with the demolition of the White House East Wing before seeking approval from federal agencies for a new ballroom, President Donald Trump forced the issue. It's a strategy known as "stake-driving."
How Trump Demolished the White House East Wing
By putting the demolition of the East Wing before the necessary approvals for his ballroom, President Donald Trump borrowed a tactic known as “stake-driving” to force an outcome.

'Viewer discretion: the following sitcom from 1976 is reflective of attitudes in 2020s England'
But we get light back in the morning which is where I struggle. I like it being dark for Evensong at 5:30pm; I can do nice atmospheric lighting. I hate having to walk to work in the dark before 8am
I'd wondered if you were coming but was then very slow this morning, though possibly because I assumed you were going to somewhere this morning not this afternoon!
I should have worked out where you were heading before I reached the same place

I wish we had audiobooks back then (or wiser parents, but you don't choose that), because then I probably wouldn't have such a bad experience with reading and wouldn't have that enormous (for a child) gap. Reading is fun. But experiencing the story is the point. More audiobooks for kids, please.

Every country has a powerful right wing that argue “if you tax the wealthy, they’ll leave”

We need to start calling their bluff.

We need to make it so the ultra wealthy either contribute enough to be a positive part of society, or be globally shunned and unable to extract further funds from us.
Yes. I've been thinking why is this one getting the attention. Admittedly his trial got more attention so his release seems more newsworthy. But who are the others who have been released by mistake?

I see Radio4 is still headlining with this story today, being careful to call the man either an asylum seeker or a migrant sex offender, as if the reason he has been sent to prison had anything to do with his migratiom status. This can have no other purpose than stirring xenophobia. Words matter!
There's been over 250 erroneous releases of prisoners in the past year, yet the only instance of this making the top story is the one that allows the media to give another good stir to anti-immigration feelings. Typical!

So, I am going to hoist my unpopular opinion: hooray for Greenwich Mean Time!

Hooray for dawn before 7 am! OK, so the evening will be dark, but it's supposed to be. Nights are dark, mornings are supposed to be light.

william hockett was a forcibly conscripted nc quaker willing to face a firing squad before helping slavers. the last line in his diary entry after deserting goes so hard

the captain ordered two men to take me to the ranks forty or fifty yards away, but I did not feel free to walk in that direction

RIP St Jerome, you would've HATED sprayed edge special editions in Waterstones.
St Jerome writing in the 5th century, ahead of his time in hating on overly ornate special editions of books, where “parchments are dyed purple, gold is melted into lettering, manuscripts are decked with jewels, while Christ lies at the door naked and dying…”
What is the basis of your worldview? How do you judge what is right and wrong and how you should live?

What I really love about this how it's chained in front of a FIRE EXIT KEEP CLEAR sign, so people will be able to Remember just before being consumed by the inferno.
I think a Remembrance thong would look a treat on our local Poppy Man. Would help everyone Remember that little bit more.

There was also an all-male roleplaying group in my high school... because they wouldn't let any women join their table.

And before you ask: yes, all those proto-incels did spend all the time complaining about how they didn't have girlfriends.

There's a reason why, when I go to a ttrpg event where I won't know the players, I make sure to pick one of the games DM'ed by a woman or nb person.

And that reason is that last time I played with a male DM I didn't know personally, he let the other players rape a NPC.
Another one I see all the time in tabletop roleplaying. All demographic info we have right now points to about an even split between genders (with a not insignificant number of nonbinary players). Yet you still get dudes who say women don't play RPGs.

My dude...they don't play WITH YOU.
