yup, that's me. you're probably wondering how i ended up in this situation. and you know what, so am i.

I saw a mayor of a major US city calling for a general strike. Not some pie in the sky leftie, but a sitting mayor. You can't tell me this isn't building somewhere.

Been seeing people ask what the No Kings protest fundamentally accomplished.

I dunno, 2 million more people showed up to this one than the last protest. That's 2m more people convinced they need to be active. That's 7m people motivated to leave their house instead of doomscroll.

Seems significant.

that 20% of people are still saying they'd vote labour in the next election is amazing to me. what's the point

Being validated by all that IRL solidarity - with your own eyes, away from social media manipulation & the media’s downplaying - and then coming home to the guy dumping AI shit on you and demolishing the WH. The vibes are electric with rage. A general strike is not as far-fetched as it once was.
I don't think a protest can serve as a heat sink when things are this bad. Nobody went home and reset. People are angrier than they've ever been, and now they've seen with their own eyes that there are millions more who feel the same.

Her er ikkje Velle åleine, politikarar generelt trur jo at å vere med i ein komité gir kompetanse på det feltet

has the president always been allowed to bulldoze the white house? surprised nobodys tried doing that on the way out to spite their successor

Worth saying that despite asking for more than 12 hours we’ve had nothing back from Labour on this
A Conservative MP tipped as a future party leader has been condemned for saying large numbers of legally settled families must be deported, in order to ensure the UK is mostly “culturally coherent”.

Tory MP criticised after demanding legally settled families be deported
Katie Lam said move would make UK ‘culturally coherent’ and that a large number of people ‘need to go home’

When I was first watching Dune Part 2 in theatres there's the scene where Paul meets his sister and I thought "wow, where did they find a location with sand dunes right next to the ocean?!" and that held in my mind for a good few seconds before the other half of me responded "you mean the beach?"

the year is 2030. the white house remains half demolished because president trump refused to pay construction workers and musk gutted government spending. two thieves sneak into the white house using a truck mounted ladder and steal the constitution

couldn’t be more representative of the current media landscape that the video trump posted of him dumping his own shit on people “appeared to be” ai generated. we have to hear out both sides of this, it could be real, who’s to say
President Trump posted what appeared to be an A.I.-generated video on social media showing him wearing a crown and flying a jet labeled “King Trump” that dumps brown liquid on protesters. He shared the video on Saturday, the same day that protesters participated in mass “No Kings” demonstrations.

Charlie Kirk's murder really has become a one-size-fits-all excuse for the right.

No matter what they want to do -- crack down on free speech, let Trump rule like a king, even gerrymander their states* -- they point to Kirk's assassination and pretend it was all about their current grievance.
Chip Roy: "The truth is the marxist, radicals, and Islamists the Democratic Party promoted this weekend, they cannot handle the truth. The truth is that there is a king and that king is Jesus. And the president has been willing to say it, & Charlie Kirk was willing to say it & he got killed for it."

Biggest argument for buying music is owning music.

The nature of deals and distro means that a huge amount of music you’re listening right now potentially won’t be there in a decade… AND as physical is no longer the default, once the digital is gone, it’s gone.
I use Tidal when i stream, because it's slightly better in what it pays artists, has better sound quality, and is less evil ethically than Spotify in many ways. But I still buy a *LOT* of music, and if you can afford to (I know many can't) you should, too, if you want recorded music to continue.
“Average musician makes $12 a month on Spotify. The fact that they are not even able to sell a record and it’s taken from them by rich motherfuckers on streaming platforms who get paid royally by record labels,Ticketmaster, merch companies. They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”

For the record I'm 99% sure he's Catholic, which I offer because I see people again making this a thing about Michigan's Muslim community
Donald Trump appointed Mark Savaya, a MAGA influencer who founded a chain of marijuana dispensaries in Michigan, as his administration’s new special envoy to Iraq.

“Mark was a key player in my campaign in Michigan, where he, and others, helped secure a record vote with Muslim Americans” Trulp said

No shade but is it weird that the most ethical platform is one that doesn’t exist yet? Like Subvert hasn’t even started alpha testing yet…

Also, 3rd place goes to a crypto platform? I mean, Nina probably is the most ethical crypto platform BUT it’s still a crypto platform.
For what it's worth, the current issue of Ethical Consumer magazine looks at alternatives to Amazon & ranks streaming services on various criteria:

Feels like, I dunno, maybe it might be a good plan if we associated this obviously bad and increasingly unpopular idea with the politician whose entire career has been telling us it would be a good idea
