the failure to engage even in modest speculation about what we are seeing is nothing less than an collective agreement to protect the president

The difference bet the way the press handled Biden’s vs Trump’s health issues, as well as the standard to which they hold his conduct is one of the greatest scandals in the history of journalism.

Their conduct, and the knowledge they’ve done tremendous damage to their profession, should shame them.

he has been talking obsessively about the afterlife for some time, he is missing for chunks of time, his aides are trying harder than usual to show he’s fit, his public appearances show someone in visible physical decline, and jd vance talked impromptu about being prepared to assume office

Yeah, it just sucks to live in a media and political environment where you cannot have that rational conversation. Not that such a place ever actually existed, but still, it would be nice to talk like adults about these things with our opponents.

And then a lot of inflation was driven from stimulus and a hot labor market. Like you can’t improve labor in this country, give out money to poor people and families, drop bands on every municipality to bild and also not see inflation. thats just not how it works

i would like to be able to presume good faith with people i disagree with and i mostly find that all disagreement is a moral outrage

I think this also accounts for what @faineg.bsky.social is seeing now re:drones and what @segyges.bsky.social saw last week re:slurs

If you're insisting on an actually existing reality with consequences, there will be some posters out there outraged that their fun little posts might be bound.

It's Wilhoit's Law, but for posters:
There must be in-groups whom posting etiquette protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom posting etiquette binds but does not protect.

This extends to the grace the parasocial hordes give to their co-partisans.

i would not be surprised if business types, particular family business tyrants, are starting to sweat things as their cravings for ~labor discipline ~ have given way to fears of labor shortage

The real story here is not about how scared individual cops are (they're almost certainly exaggerating), but about the fact police depts in the US openly intervene in partisan politics, and decline to obey reform-minded politicians. We effectively have no democratic oversight of police in the US.

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.

Today in @TheFP our @Olivia_Reingold talks to the cops who say they will walk if Zohran Mamdani is elected in November:”

Anyone in Boston an immigration lawyer or know one who can help this woman? Her husband is detained at Logan over a dismissed misdemeanor from 2017. He’s a legal resident of the US. She just asked for help an hour ago.

I have a confession to make here, I've sometimes used tzatziki on a bagel w/lox, when out of cream cheese. It's a little messy, but delicious.

I think this could also work with chopped up bean curd sheet/tofu skins, and the black bean sauce that often accompanies other dishes.

i bet you could make great kosher poutine with a schmaltz-based gravy and fried Shan tofu (basically, extremely smooth chickpea-flour polenta) with za'atar on top

one of the really revealing parts of this unhinged discourse *about 100% fake screenshots* is from a few months ago the last time the “Israeli poutine” one circulated and someone reacted “Israel continues to prove they have no culture WHICH SMEARS WHITE PEOPLE EVERYWHERE”

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

I just go with Soviet or FSU Jews, because a) Ukrainians and Belarusians didn't think we were part of them at the time b) the empire is what resulted in my particular family history, and its collapse in our emigration.

Man it really sucks that people heard “Jews and Israelis aren’t synonymous” and interpreted that to mean “you can be as antisemitic as you want if you just say Israeli instead of Jewish”

I don't understand how "people yelling at me in the comments" can be misconstrued for "thought police" except by way of a bizarre generalization such as "anyone who tells me my opinion is bad is the thought police"

And not just any reporter. Radley Balko's reporting has gotten an innocent man off death row. He's broken multiple major stories about huge scandals. He goes in-depth on the ground with tons of local sources. Dismissing his detailed debunking as Weiss did is something no serious journalist would do.

Hi Sally. When Weiss published a supposed expose on the death of George Floyd, a veteran criminal justice reporter showed in deep detail that the piece was not just wrong but filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations. Weiss did not retract the piece. What do you think of that?
