🐦🎓🫶🏻🇵🇸Welcome to Sparrows for Palestine! Our collective gathers university members who care about our institutions ending their complicity in the apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian People by disclosing, divesting from and cutting institutional ties with complicit Israeli institutions.

Rather than limiting or cutting ties with Israeli institutions (which play an important role in providing logistics, manpower, and research to support the genocide) UofT has intensified connections to and collaborations with Israel. See "Sparrows for Palestine" substack.com/home/post/p-... [1/3]
How embedded within UofT have partnerships with Israeli institutions become?
Quick answer: Very, very much.

canada's post-secondary institutions are christofascist, zionist, and now full of hindutva

there is no “fighting fascism” here
it is already deeply fascist

The University of Toronto has made a consistent point of surveilling and disciplining faculty members critical of Israel's genocide in Gaza.

When you read this, it becomes very clear why that is.

How deep do UofT's partnerships with Israeli institutions run?

This is entirely fair critique. Where were these Columbia faculty members when Mohamed Abdou needed them?
thrasherxy.bsky.social
What an offensive statement from so-called historians. There have been others who have been chased out of the country. Mohamed Abdou was deported for his teaching about Gaza…and he was a prof AT COLUMBIA! But he was queer, Muslim, brown & untenured. Do only white straight tenured profs get sympathy?

They take genuine pleasure in torturing people and a political culture that has long ago normalised this will not stop unless forced to

“I swear to God, they didn’t feed us. They beat us while we were naked day and night.

Until our last day, they cut us and hit us and abused us. We endured every kind of torture, emotional and physical.

We couldn’t even sleep. They told me they killed my children.”

- released Palestinian prisoner
Palestinian prisoner Shadi Abu Seed has given a harrowing account of life inside an Israeli prison after his release as part of the ceasefire deal.

“I went hungry for the past two years. I swear to God, they didn’t feed us. They kept us naked. They beat us while we were naked day and night. We were tortured,” Abu Seed said.

“Until our last day in Israeli prison, they cut us and hit us and abused us. We endured every kind of torture, emotional and physical.

“We couldn’t even sleep. They threatened us with our children. They told me they killed my children. They told us that Gaza was destroyed. I arrived here and found that everything was gone. It looked like the end of the world. Everything is different.”

Really looks like that summit was merely an opportunity for men - and I think they were all men? - to make sure they were close to Trump while Trump was happy
nkalamb.bsky.social
WTF is the head of FIFA doing at the summit?
FIFA President Gianni Infantino attending Donald Trump’s so-called “Gaza peace summit” in Egypt.

But sure, tell us again how “football and politics don’t mix.”
Absolutely insane.

As someone who is descended from Holocaust survivors I find this offensive af. Israel and the Zionist project is distinct from the Holocaust even if they do try to appropriate it.

The war may have ended, but our suffering continues. Our home was destroyed, and we have been living in a tent for over a year. We are struggling to rebuild our lives from nothing. Your support means the world to us.You are our hope to start again.

Indonesia is denying Israeli athletes entrance visas, which will prevent them from keeping in the world gymnastics championships.

This is what real solidarity against genocide looks like.

apnews.com/article/indo...
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Indonesia will block Israeli athletes from competing at the upcoming gymnastics world championships in Jakarta, a government official said Thursday.

The decision to deny visas to the Israeli athletes comes after their planned participation had sparked intense opposition in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, which has long been a staunch supporter of Palestinians.

a massive development in the US is how a plurality (roughly) of Americans reached the same conclusion as the UN/etc. that Israel’s committing genocide, despite the censorship/rationalization of these statements in mainstream discourse. Something changed; the aftermath of the change is anyone‘s guess

*certain conditions apply
nkalamb.bsky.social
Remind me of the conditions placed on the families of the released Israeli captives?
Israeli occupation have barred families of Palestinian captives from celebrating or speaking to press after their loved ones are released. They have also dropped leaflets on the homes of prisoners’ families that read:

“The Israeli security forces will not allow demonstrations in support of terrorist organizations.

Anyone who takes part in such activities exposes themselves to questioning, punishment, and arrest.

You have been warned — we are watching you closely.”

Someone among the people the NPR broadcast last night kept referring to as "detainees" and while they spoke about Israeli hostages.

Detainee implies they committed a crime; hostage (rightly) implies innocence. Why would a "neutral" news source deem Israeli prisoners innocent and not Palestinians?
