After he let Trump steal FIFA's Club World Cup trophy, is anyone surprised? What a toad

Is there any depth to which Infantino won't sink...

WTF is the head of FIFA doing at the summit?
FIFA President Gianni Infantino attending Donald Trump’s so-called “Gaza peace summit” in Egypt.

But sure, tell us again how “football and politics don’t mix.”
Absolutely insane.

In a shocking twist of events, it turns out that the economics & politics of international trade have not suddenly changed after centuries simply because 🇨🇳 is now a large player in the world economy 🧐🤔

U.S. companies and consumers are bearing the brunt of the country's new import tariffs, early indications show, contradicting assertions by President Donald Trump and complicating the Federal Reserve's fight against inflation.

Amen to that! Also how about Marconi, Fiorello LaGuardia, Mario Cuomo... e la listina continua....

When it comes to his tariffs, the one certainty is uncertainty

My Trade Secrets newsletter today. Declare trade war on Friday, in full retreat by Sunday. Donald Trump's brought a knife (tariffs) to a gunfight (rare earths) with China. He's in a weak position and he's playing it badly.

ALSO: global steel trade and Argentina are in a mess. Aren't they always?

This is a good example of media failure. No reason to both sides an issue when one side is making up nonsense.

@dandrezner.bsky.social who should the next Forum leader be? David Miliband? Angela Merkel? Hillary Clinton? Jacinda Ardern?
geoffpigman.bsky.social
The Forum is uniquely skilled at promoting its mission. It started with Schwab but doesn't depend on him to be sustained. It's in their culture. They do way more good than harm, so I'm hopeful they remain a bulwark of globalism against the Trumpistas and their cronies worldwide.

How sad indeed! I can't believe she was 96. Just hearing the phone ring and that voice saying, 'The Bucké(t) residence, theladyofthehouse speaking'...

"By our Law, all Ministerial Officers are accountable for their Actions: The Authority of Superiours, though the King himself, cannot justifie inferiour Officers, much less Ministers of State, if they should execute illegal Commands."

My mother's family in MA did that too. Guess I like the acidic taste more? Don't need that extra sugar in the sauce.

I see it as part of our asserting state authority over fed authority on our territories. Fed forces out (ICE etc), we control ports of entry, issue residence docs/work permits etc. The Trumpistas have already pre-empted the 1789 constitution. We need to negotiate a new constitutional/union treaty.
geoffpigman.bsky.social
Absolutely. Since they've decided which parts of federal legislation they want to enforce and which to ignore, then so must we. As it is, our states are subsidizing their states. It's time for that to stop.

I shop at Walmart in person every week, even when I’m in a city. Prices are the best, selection is great. And I hate online shopping. Haven’t seen any of these videos btw

This! Our states need to legislate for our federal income taxes to be paid into our state revenue agencies. Then governors can negotiate with the Feds terms for funding federal activities.

inbox, from Democratic Assembly nominee Katie Brennan (LD-32, Jersey City/Hoboken): Brennan Calls for New Jersey to Withhold Federal Taxes, Seize Trump’s Bedminster Golf Course After Gateway Tunnel Funding Freeze
"This is not how the government is supposed to work. We pay federal taxes but get a President who sees us as the enemy and takes away our own money as retaliation.
This has to stop.
"Donald Trump has shown again and again that he is unfit to lead this country. When he's not too busy golfing, he's doing active harm, whether it's sending masked troops into cities or shutting down vital infrastructure projects like this.
"These funds were already approved. And if people can't cross the Hudson to get to work, it will literally destroy our economy.
"We have to show Trump that this isn't okay.
"Yes, New Jersey should sue the Trump administration, but we have to do more. We should be withholding federal taxes, dollar for dollar, to backfill funding that's illegally cut.
The state should also eminent domain
Trump's golf course in Bedminster and build some affordable housing there instead. If the federal government won't stand up for New Jersey, Trenton should."
