A hugely important way to help is to make space and actively listen, let people have their space. Be open and curious and let them feel heard before engaging fix it mode. It can be exhausting

*unfortunately because people are uncomfortable when others bring up depression they go into fix it/solution mode and end up telling someone that just wanted to share that they should try vitamins, meditating, and exercise. It’s not bad advice but also not what the person needs when they bring it up

I didn’t say I was ultra depressed. I was just taking perspective on life long experience with depression and how it is a part of my experience but I have learned to separate it from who I am. Because I am talking about it doesn’t mean I am struggling and need tips*

I was talking about the difference between acknowledging MDD w/o internalizing it as an identity/personality trait (more than letting a thought go, but 30+ years of depression & still not identifying at your core as those traits). Y’know?
