Are you telling me that no elected officials in the entirety of Congress, nor any of their staff, know anything about how it works?
grudgingsignup.bsky.social
This is just restating the same argument again. It's not regular people's role to know the exact specific procedures to block fascism. It's the role of professional politicians and their staff and advisors and specialist lawyers. That's the entire point of them.

There is a genuine mental block amongst the elites in capitalist societies. Everything is collapsing and the hegemon is autocannibalising, but if that were true then they'd have to do something about it, and so they are doubling down on "everything is fine and normal."

The EU-Commission wants to negotiate a very sensitive agreement that would allow US authorities direct (!) access to police-stored fingerprints & facial images in Europe.
Potentially, all travelers could be affected by this #EBSP – and people in need for protection.

Screenshot from the linked story that reads "But Prince Andrew seems to have cultivated his own independent sources of funding since leaving public life, including business connections with China, the Gulf States and a recently curtailed project with a Dutch start-up company. He has proved financially resilient, despite what must be significant costs in paying for his own security."

One of the many things I wish I had been wrong about is saying that back in the nineties, our leaders looked at climate change and said: We can’t do shit about this without measures we find unacceptable, so future generations will just have to deal with it via machine guns, fences and attack dogs.

GenAI truly was the worst technology to come along at this moment.

An energy and water guzzler when we most urgently need to take climate action.

A disinformation machine as our journalism fails.

A bias machine as fascism takes root.

It’s just PUA misogynistic bullshit by another name right?

If you’re presenting yourself fraudulently to someone, that’s already *really* bad, but I’d also wager than basically anyone who does this isn’t actually emotionally prepared to have a relationship, and has an immature view of what one is.

this is sociopathic behaviour and I think we need to treat it as such! just because something has become easy to do doesn't mean it has become less creepy, or more acceptable!

Wasserfarben.

Alles #Ostsee | #Balticsea | #MareBalticum.

A common canard about the civil war is that it was about states rights, or that the union didn't care about slavery and...like all good lies, there is an element of truth there

But only an element - it ignores the fact that the war directly exposed the union troops DIRECTLY too slavery

"I'll fight till hell freezes over and then I'll cut the ice and fight on" is metal af
Post by user @jamellebouie.net that reads, "from chandra manning's wonderful book "what this cruel war was over"

Nothing made slavery's toxicity more obvious to Union troops than its effect on the fundamental unit of society, the family. For one thing, slave sales separated families. In the Upper Sout, where many Union soldiers were stationed in 1861, about one in three first marriages was broken by sale, and about half of all slave children were separated from at least one parent. With their own eyes, soldiers saw slavery snap bonds between parents and children. The men of the Seventh Wisconsin were awakened by gunshots one November night. The following day, soldiers "learned, and saw the cause of the alarm in the form of two negro women—a mother and a daughter." The pair had fled to Union lines to avoid the proposed sale of the "goodlooking" daughter into the so-called fancy trade, which soldiers viewed as a form of concubinage. Outraged by the plight and moved by the vulnerability of the mother and daughter, "every private in the ranks" cursed "that system which tramples on the honor of man, and makes merchandise of the virtue of women," according to one member of the regiment. When an Iowan encountered a young child about to be sold by her own father, who was also her master, he vowed, "By G-d I'll fight till hell freezes over and then I'll cut the ice and fight on."
