Enjoyer of university press sales and military-themed shitposts. Charles Sumner and Thad Stevens were right. Unfortunately, so was Juan Linz.

Every time a Democrat gets caught on tape saying like “Some Trump voters are racist” we have a national scandal and JD Vance demands an entirely new kind of apology and meanwhile every Republican group chat is like “Good morning fellow SS members. Who’s ready to respect Hitler today?”

“many prominent young republicans are actual Nazis” is a self-censoring fact at this point

normie swing voters will literally refuse to believe it and the media refuses to report it because it would call everything else they’ve done into question
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
while 'young republicans are literal nazis' is well known to folks here, the extent of it is surprisingly not that commonly known even in media and analyst circles, let alone normal people.

The ability to "be natural" in front of, let alone toward, a camera lens is a freakish artificial skill and the demand for it almost certainly has left scammers and sociopaths overrepresented in political leadership; probably not great that we've now organized everyday society around it too

It's a sign of how many people (and journalists) live inside a media-created alternate reality that skill in the style of televised public performance associated with Hollywood actors is considered equivalent to 'authenticity'
brendannyhan.bsky.social
This is an obsession of mine - a huge pathology of the press is coverage suggesting that politicians who are less skilled performers are somehow less "authentic"

Post-Trump government reform is obviously going to have to include moving a bunch of agencies out of the executive, but I think it probably also needs to include the creation of a watchdog org under congress that explicitly *always* has standing for constitutional violations by the executive.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

This is important exculpatory evidence bc the indictment accuses James of seeking a “second home” mortgage when in reality she intended to use it as an “investment” home by renting it out.

(James disclosed between $1,000-5,000 in rent during 1st year, but the contract allowed short term rentals.)

NYT reports that Letitia James’s great niece lives in the home that is the subject of the indictment.

The niece reportedly testified before a *different* grand jury, telling them that she had lived there for many years without paying rent. James visits regularly.

But in June, IMs. Thompson testified to a grand
jury in Norfolk that she had lived in the house for years and that she did not pay rent, a person familiar with her testimony said. She was not asked to testify again, and the grand jury that voted to indict Ms. James was not seated in Norfolk, but in Alexandria.
The specter of Mr. Trump's revenge campaign has so far overshadowed the facts of the case, given how he has pushed for Ms. James's punishment. For years, he has railed against her on social media, calling her a "crook" and
"corrunt" Last month. he also appointed Ms. for a peaceful life after years of turbulence in several cities.
The family, Nakia Thompson and her children, have lived at the address ever since, according to two people familiar with the home, and until this week, the plan for a more lacid existence had largely gone as expected. Several times a year, the people said, a great-aunt who had purchased the house in 2020 with Ms.
Thompson in mind would come for an extended stay.
This week, with the filing of court papers some 200 miles north, the plan came to an abrupt end.
The great-aunt - Letitia James, the New York attorney general - was indicted by President Trump's Justice Department. The yellow house,

i have no opinions about Janet Mills as a person. it's just that if the actuarial tables put you at over a 40% chance of dying or becoming gravely disabled in your first term, you should not run. it's like running a terminal cancer patient.

If I were a DC reporter, I’d consider maybe pressing Johnson on how he reconciles these two statements.
@atrupar.com

Mike Johnson: "We're so angry about it. I mean, l'm a very patient guy, but l've had it with these people. The theory we have right now -- they have a hate America rally that's scheduled for October 18 on the National Mall. It's the pro-Hamas wing and antifa people ..." @atrupar.com

Mike Johnson: "People have got to stop framing simple policy disagreements in terms of existential threats to our democracy. You can't call the other side fascists and enemies of the state and not understand that there are some deranged people in our society who will take that as cues to act."

Theyre not gearing up for a crackdown. They want to suppress turnout because large protests signal the unpopularity of Trump.

This sounds like they're gearing up for a violent crackdown. The talking points obviously went out.

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

A judge has ordered his immediate release.
