[gets a fancy job in another country]: I have, uh, fled America.
Jason Stanley isn’t afraid to use the F-word when talking about President Donald Trump.

The author of How Fascism Works and Erasing History: How Fascists Rewrite the Past to Control the Future is clear: He believes the US is currently under an authoritarian regime led by a fascist leader.
I study fascism. I’ve already fled America.
On this week’s “More To The Story,” former Yale philosophy professor Jason Stanley explains his recent move to Canada and calls the Trump administration’s takeover of the US government a “coup.”

I believe that the average writer has 1–2 thoughts a month that are worth sharing and that writing blog posts multiple times a week threatens to make you boorish and dumb. This explains the state of most of our op-ed writers.

somewhat haunting to me that the "oval pawffice" account kept on posting in character through about may 2025, then kind of spluttered out with a couple retweets before finally falling silent. rest meow brother. we have the pawatch. we'll see you in pawlhalla

A beautiful thing
straight-up jury nullification. this guy did it, confessed to it, and the jury instructions explicitly said that if he did it intentionally, it was assault.

it’s not like you have to be squeaky clean either. you can still be a sex pervert and try to get other sex perverts removed from office! ask denny hastert!
“impeach the pedophiles” is not a bipartisan legislative priority. how fucked up is that? makes me want to pull my hair out.
if you wanted to unite the nation around a single issue they all could agree on, could you do much better than “pedophiles should not hold public office?”
“We need to focus on kitchen table issues,” is a PIECE of the winning strategy, so long as it’s followed by, “and the man who made it so there’s less food on your table is a known pedophile, wanna watch us impeach his ass?”
Most dem voters pay attention to whatever elected officials tell them is important, and what affects them most directly. The elected officials don’t want them paying attention to this, so they don’t and won’t until someone they respect shouts it in their face. This is by design.
for me, this is my litmus test for any elected official: if you’re not speaking in loud favor of releasing the files, I am free to assume you a) are a pedophile, b) are sympathetic to pedophiles, or c) are professionally or personally beholden to pedophiles. burden of proof is on you, change my mind
and the problem is that if just a handful of electeds chose to pivot hard toward the message of “this isn’t about right vs. left, this is about pedophiles vs. the United States and we are Team USA, let the chips fall where they may,” and did the comms to inform those people, it’s a slam dunk
I’d like to believe your experience is indicative of a greater trend, but I’m more convinced that what you’re seeing is only true of those who are well-informed on the existing evidence, and I think that group is the stark minority. most remain blissfully unaware and think of Clinton mostly fondly
the point I think being made here is that, if they wanted the files to be public, they would be, because what we already know is pretty damning, and the only logical reason they’re still not public is enough people on both sides have enough reasons to want them not to be public
but that’s voters. what about dem lawmakers and operatives who, though not themselves implicated in the files, have their political futures tied up with powerful people who are implicated? do they not have the same incentive to protect the guilty as their MAGA counterparts?

For those of us who've been paying attention, this has become what we expect, but for a lot of normies, this will read as Anne Frank level Nazi shit and it's breaking through.
Getting new details on this now:

As the arrest unfolded, teachers pleaded with the agents telling them the teacher had a work permit. The agents went into multiple rooms looking for teachers while children were present. One teacher hid with a child in her care while the agents stormed the facility.
Raids inside day cares had been off limits until this year, when, on his first day in office, President Donald Trump removed that protection.

The arrest reportedly took place in front of children.
