Innovating play experience is hard as hell. The 2000s were a wild outlier, I think. Plus, all the best concepts get diffused into everything, so the floor for novelty is higher. I know you know this, but yeah, once you include market forces, innovation gets even harder and riskier.

I've been telling the sprog "Fork Not Fingers" when eating messy/shared food. They wanted a gherkin and, as their hand was poised to plunge into the jar, I shot them a look. They looked at me and said "I know: Fork Not Gherkins". Laughing, I said that didn't even rhyme. Thus the new motto was born.

IDK, maybe it's just my superpower of *checks notes* basic pattern recognition, but since the 80s, things have been changing and continue to change.

I read "The Ragged Trousered Philantrophists" and was unable to tell if it was a parody of the modern day or an "of its time".

That was Circa 2004.
