Hello Stranger,

I'm Epidiah Ravachol. You may have heard of my #ttrpg work, like Dread, the horror game that uses Jenga; or Swords Without Master, which can be found in Worlds Without Master, issue 3.

I've been at this indie truly-true role-playing game publishing gig for about a quarter century.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

You can just share my video from me instead of sharing a screen recording of my video from a content farm account that isn’t on the scene btw.

Rob Wieland's first email to me was on Sat, Oct 21, 2006, asking to get the PDF of Spirit of the Century to go with his physical-copy purchase.

There since the beginning.

Wish he could've been there until the end.
Cover of Fate Worlds Volume 2: Worlds in Shadow, featuring cover art taken from Rob Wieland's contribution to this book, the amazing King-Arthur-in-Mech-Suits CAMELOT Trigger setting. Armored mech-knights suit up to face the robotic horde led by the giant-floating-head MerGN-A! In this interior image from CAMELOT Trigger, we get a closer look at the giant floating head MerGN-A as her mouth opens to disgorge endless flying robots. Writing credit:

It’s a real blow to see the news of Rob Wieland’s passing. A true original who has supported small indie designers for years, including me and my games. Love and peace to his family and everyone else grieving today.

THE IRON BARGE ⚔️✨is a talking animal adventure comic set in post-apocalyptic Las Vegas, following a duty bound otter travelling with a pirate across the different Casino kingdoms to hide a deadly secret.

Read from the beginning here

Cover for chapter 2 of THE IRON BARGE. An otter in a green cloak carrying a large flashlight stands with an aye-aye lemur pirate, alarmed and defensive. Behind them is an old brick wall covered with posters of escaped animal convicts. There's a yellow spotlight on the otter and lemur.

In case you’re hearing about the “protest that turned violent” in Boston last week, here’s the “violence” in question, per the police report
Following the protest, four officers were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. One officer had a broken nose and had his glasses broken, another was treated for pepper spray exposure, one sustained a finger injury while handcuffing and another sustained a lower back injury attempting to make an arrest.

A 13-year old child stolen from his parents by the police without a word.

A mother finds out her son is gone, handed over to ICE, taken to a facility 500 miles away.

So many people on the wrong side of history.

ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.

I think people are more open to them today, but I suspect they were less open in the decade prior to Dread.

We have armed secret police kidnapping people off the street based on the color of their skin.

When we win: we will haul them before a Senate committee. The masks will come off. There will be consequences.

But without the rest, I'm not confident the design would've even mattered.
epidiah.bsky.social
Oh, and I guess the design deserves a bit of the credit.

Which is not to discount all the hard work we put in during those early days!

I must've personally hosted Dread for more than a thousand strangers in the years leading up to the release.
epidiah.bsky.social
There's a lineage of recommendations trailing all the way back to those early days.
epidiah.bsky.social
Not saying Dread would be ignored today, folks discover it all the time; but that discovery is predicated on someone else already knowing about it and talking about it.
epidiah.bsky.social
Had some conversations recently that has me thinking about how lucky Dread was to hit when it did. When audiences were smaller, attention was focused into narrower channels, and people were open to something odd.

Pritzker should be held responsible for the police nominally under his control; that being said, this is going to be a problem for every politician you try to sell us on as a savior. Because everyone of them, and many of their supporters, refuses to actually confront what the police are doing.
