One of the right wing's top cultural initiatives was trying to destroy the idea that assholery deserves shame and we'll have to reverse that. "I'm just expressing an opinion I'm entitled to." Ok but you're an asshole. "I'm simply doing a business practice that technically isn't illegal." Ok. Asshole

Excited for 2028 when some state SoS kicks Trump off the ballot, Federal district and appellate judges uphold it and then SCOTUS issues an unsigned 6-3 shadow docket rulling staying the lower court ruling, allowing Trump to stay on the ballot and schedules arguments for the case for February 2029.

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

This is exactly the same argument — and, in parts, even the same language — that segregationists advanced to argue that white people had a “right” not to live next to people who were different from them.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

It would be nice for Democratic leadership to call this what it is
So here's Andrew Cuomo reacting to Maria Bartiromo wondering if Mamdani will "change the look of New York" and have Muslim women "completely covered up," telling her that Mamdani "doesn't understand New York culture" because he has "dual citizenship" and "he's a citizen of Uganda."

Most people who actually live next to immigrants are just fine. It’s the people never exposed to anyone different from them who get angriest — and to whom Vance is appealing here.

Also, Vance is a sociopathic ghoul whose nativist bullshit would have prevented his own children from existing.
What an embarrassing thing to say out loud.

This is probably the funniest headline of the year.

"I'd be allowed to do whatever I want."
Q: What did you mean when you said you're prepared to send 'more than the National Guard' into American cities?

TRUMP: if I want to enact a certain act, I'd be allowed to do whatever I want. The courts wouldn't get involved. Nobody would. I could send Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines -anybody I want

Hey girl, are you an airport ladies' restroom? Because you are defying gender stereotypes by being surprisingly disgusting

I like how Zohran Mamdani scandals are like "He called his old cousin his aunt one time" and Andrew Cuomo scandals are like "He sexually assaulted 13 women."
One of the biggest struggles for me in this era is balancing "we are well past that point and can't possibly address everything unacceptable they're doing" with "if we ever want to build a functional society again we have to maintain a belief that ethics and the rule of law do in fact matter"

We live in a country where the media is focused more on who a Democratic mayoral candidate defines as his ‘aunt’ than on the DHS Twitter account putting out white nationalist propaganda and replying to Nazis online.

Reminds me of when Republicans called Obama uppity for correctly pronouncing Pakistan.
Jeremy W. Peters identifies the tell-tale sign of “leftist dogma” in @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social: pronouncing Haiti’s name correctly
It is breathtaking how fucking stupid this guy is. The dumbest motherfucker that ever lived. What the fuck.

It’s a building of pipes going back and forth.
Trump: "Massive plants. And they're doing unbelievably. LNG. It's like the Empire State Building lying on its side. And all I know is I looked at. I said, 'What kind of a building is that?' All it's got is pipes going back and forth. I never saw anything like it. But whatever it is, it works."

Heartened by the return of one of the classic Trump bits, which is when he sways faintly and says "I'd like to see low IQ [person of color he saw on TV] try to pass the test that's regularly administered to me by medical professionals, the famous unbeatable Test To Determine Extent Of Brain Trauma,"
