coming out story: ex-mormon, my 1st thanksgiving home was spent w/ a sister missionary from my mission; everyone thought we would get married. we went to watch the remake of “miracle on 34th street”, and as i looked deeply into dylan mcdermott’s crystal blue eyes, i knew it would never work.

As a child, I only had to deal with air raid drills. Today kids learn what to do in mass shotings. Now are they going to have to learn about tear gas and ICE?
One of her students became so overwhelmed that he had a panic attack. “It’s very scary because this is their normal,”...”You start forming your memories more solidly around 4 or 5 years old, so they have some happy kindergarten memories. But now all of sudden, this is going to take over…”

Chicago teachers said they’re dealing with traumatized students in underfunded schools — while Trump spends millions to militarize American cities.

The dialogue is a whole other thing but the bit about "fuck you shoot me I'll die for this shit" and the reaction is the crux here, from Gandhi's time on down, no authoritarian in history ever knows how to respond to this and it's why it beats them whenever deployed
"Man goes scorched earth on ICE agents kidnapping people in his hometown."

basically all this shit is Roberts' fault, because the immunity made Trump feel like he could break the law as much as he wants without consequences. bsky.app/profile/jayw...
Here's a fun little nugget from Trump's demand that DOJ pay him, personally, $250 million: In his memo, he argues that prosecutors "should have foreseen" that he has "immunity from prosecution for officials acts." Thank you John Roberts, great rule of law-ing, sir! static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics...

Pete Buttigieg endorses aid restrictions to Israel, Seth Moulton is running away from AIPAC at full speed, Mallory McMorrow says it's a genocide, meanwhile Cory Booker says that asking if Netanyahu is a war criminal is unfair.

What the hell is happening? I take a stab at it in the piece below.
Democrats Are Getting a Brutal Lesson in How Much the Politics on Israel Have Changed
From Pete Buttigieg to Gavin Newsom, party bigwigs are finding out the hard way that the old platitudes don’t work anymore.

So we’re now paying federal taxes so Donald Trump can withdraw them from the Treasury like it’s his own personal bank account? Really?

Half of this country doesn't even pursue happiness anymore, they pursue "winning." And what's worse for them, is that they've foolishly and addictively bought into a malignant definition of what winning is, which doesn't even put them on the winning side.

Setting aside The Horror for a quick second, what is even the business strategy here?

They are making their stores actively hostile to and unsafe for the guys who go in to make big bulk materials purchases every day
For folks asking if they've made it *inside* a Home Depot yet as the business has clearly just continued letting agents do whatever they want in their lots, the answer is yes. This is from yesterday in Evanston.

This is how a dictatorship works
Trump: "It looks like we're gonna have a Communist as the mayor of New York. But here's the good news -- he's gotta go through the White House. Everything goes through the White House. At least this White House it does."

probably not the most popular opinion but addressing what's been done during the next democratic administration has to include recognizing that these institutions have banned trans students from campus and responding appropriately
The University of Virginia has capitulated to Trump on transgender and race (affirmative action) issues.

The details are currently sparse, but reporting suggests they've agreed to define trans people out of existence and ban trans students from facilities.

Tonight, I'm proud to stand with @merkley.senate.gov as he shines a bright light on the dangers that we face and the fragile moment our democracy is in.

Thank you, Senator Merkley, for your words and your fight tonight.

If you can afford it, a *monetary* donation (it goes a lot farther!) to your local food bank would be a most excellent thing to do right now.
I want more people to care that SNAP benefits are being cut off on November 1. 40% of SNAP beneficiaries are children. This is callous and vile.

State rep. Hoan Huynh shared video of agents surrounding his vehicle/stopping him + staffers shortly after he said one agent pointed a gun inside his vehicle at him while another threatened to break a window. They were following feds in Albany Park after four people were reportedly taken.

I know that there are people outside Chicago who are paying attention and seeing these videos but there are no words for how it feels when the videos show everyday places in your neighborhood, places that are part of your routine. The sense of violation is profound.

The Republican Party takes a break from enabling child sexual predators to enable terrorists targeting the highest levels of the government. Again.
This is the asymmetry in our politics and media. If this was the other way around, Biden had pardoned someone then charged with trying to kill Trump, it would be the biggest story in America and every Republican commentator, congressman, news outlet, would be screaming about it in unison.

(Because they like Trump and what he’s doing)
I looked at 38 papers. The NYT was one of only a few not to have it as the top story and photo

The handful of exceptions were pretty much all places with a big D1 football game

I genuinely don't understand why the NYT is so reticent to give coverage to one of the largest protests in history
i’ve put a line through my sevens since i lived in germany and can’t break the habit; same with z’s & zeros. otherwise, how do you distinguish seven from one and zero from o?
We can't explain it, but putting a little line in the middle of a 7 is writing French.
