There's a reason earnest candidates who scale walls in the middle of the night or perform hakas in front of Parliament drive us wild.
Mamdani shows how hungry voters are for candidates who act like they actually care for the places they'd represent. Will he deliver? Not on everything. But he has an exuberance for the city that you wish Congress had for the country.

As a NYer, ”real” “small town” America now looks like a sexual freak zoo run by genital-obsessive xenophobes who make women into living dolls and shoot each other. Mamdani’s NYC (and mine) is a safe, wholesome place where neighbors help each other, do scavenger hunts, ride bikes, and birdwatch.
upside: it's easier and lighter when I walk to work in the morning
downside: it's much much darker when I walk home in the evening
Done! Their search can be funky, and I'm good waiting.
Got a learning course pushed at me by one of our big enterprise software vendors, from a third party called Learn Prompting. Sloppy and poorly -produced, I wonder if they used too much AI and not enough people in production. Clearly an outfit that doesn't give a shit.

Two of the media organizations that have really "met the moment" in national coverage are Teen Vogue and WIRED.

Along with student-run college newspapers in general. And scores of local start-ups.

The main hope for journalism (in its dark times) is the next wave of journalists.
For any unfamiliar with the quality of journalism at Teen Vogue, it's well known for hard-hitting stories on "politically sensitive" topics including climate.

Then there's CBS: the only major network to increase climate coverage in the last few years. They just axed nearly their whole climate team.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Really this whole thing just reinforces the way Twitter (and the outsized illusion of salience it afforded) completely fucking melted the brains of 95% of "people with 'journalist' in bio" and they are completely melting down at the thought they've lost that salience

Note also that Adrian Vermeule is *expressly* claiming Nick Fuentes and his band of Nazi followers not as "the enemy at the gates" but as teammates he wants on his side.

To repeat: Nazis are far less of a concern to Vermeule than liberals are.

Because Vermeule is a fascist. Full stop.
Note that “the city” here is “the right.” The rest of us are enemies.

1. Campaign on big issues that are directly relevant to your voters

2. Don't get distracted from point one

3. Present as a decent human with manageable baggage

4. Don't be old as fuck.

Go forth and do likewise
Thoroughly indoctrinated that every liberal city is burning?

You don’t get to name your kid X Æ A-12 and then say “or whatever his name is” about anyone else.
Elon Musk endorses Cuomo for mayor of New York and makes sure to add some racism in there: “…Mumdumi or whatever his name is.”

As an aside, one of the things that continues to be striking to me is how so many of the folks excitedly building an authoritarian MAGA state don't seem to have put 2 and 2 together about how is obviously going to get long-knived the moment that state is secure.
Vermeule thus goes in the same "I can't believe you don't realize your 'allies' will put you up against the wall without delay" bucket as Peter Thiel.
I am not quite so sure. Racism among the base isn't the same thing as racism among the elites, and neither are quite the same as the racism of the 30s. I wouldn't be surprised if we found that Kash Patel & Usha Vance had somehow acquired whiteness (for lack of a better term)

we are not, in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty five, doing the "how dare you block me" old twitter discourse again
Blocking hatemongers is one thing but this trend of using mass block lists to avoid hearing from people who might or might not hold points of view you expect to disagree with is unhealthy imo and hurts the platform.

Bluesky was better off with folks like Margaret Mitchell and Giada Pistilli on it.
Unironically yes. I shudder to think what our speech environment would look like without it. We need better anti-SLAPP laws, for sure, but it could be soooo much worse.

Basically, every single person who has ever waxed lyrical about the value of exposure to opposing viewpoints has actually been talking about *you* being exposed to *their* views and literally nothing else.

Alright gents listen up!

Yesterday we covered cone of sandwich fire and the beaten, or, “floured” zone. Today we will be discussing enfilade, plunging and flanking fires. As well as the preferred sandwiches for each.

Open your menus to page three.
It's not in this article but the government asserts that the sandwich was thrown at "point blank range", which implies subway sandwiches have defined effective weapon ranges of varying lethality, and I would like to see the government's chart of these ranges.

Usha and the pope both telling JD he’s a bad catholic
The main thing that I wish someone would have picked up on the whole "JD-Usha" interfaith baloney squabble was: what a flex it is for a religion (Hinduism) to be so comfortable with itself that Usha tells JD to "pursue his own religion, it will do you good".
