2025 challenge for everyone (myself included):

- Have you read the entire thread before replying?
- Have you looked to see if other people have already replied with what you want to say?
- Are you thinking of "well, actually"-ing?
- Do you you and the person know each other well enough to say that?

Will be applying a new policy from here on out.

If you come into my mentions to tell me that [thing] isn't worth my attention or bringing it to the attention of others, I'm going to assume you're a bad actor and block you.

ESPECIALLY if you're an 8 follower account with primarily replies.

Today, a thread to honor and celebrate #IndigenousPeoplesDay.
The world is so big, so there will be a second and maybe a third part.
We will begin with Zuni weaver We’wha (1849-1896).

🧵 1/20
merryrobin.bsky.social
We’wha (1849-1896), a notable weaver and potter Lhamana (Zuni Two Spirit), took on both masculine and feminine tasks as a Zuni cultural ambassador and pottery and textile artist.
Also a spiritual leader, We’wha endeavored to preserve the history, traditions, and knowledge of the Zuni people.
A black and white, full body portrait of We'wha, a highly respected cultural figure in Zuni culture, known as a "lhamana" (two spirits). We'wha is standing, looking at the camera, wearing traditional Zuni attire, with patterned clothing, woven belts, a long beaded necklace, and earrings. The hair is styled with side buns adorned with ribbons.

251 likes and I’ve only got $200, which I have been able to send to 4 Indigenous women in need.

I think you guys could do better! I have a long list of Indigenous folks who could use a boost today.

My first thought would be "how do you know what my neighbourhood is, stalker?"

I cannot decide if Marco Polo counts as part of this collection (I don't think so).

It has a hugely talented, predominantly Asian cast, but it is clearly an American production.

It is, however, making me want to look up all the movies and tv shows with the actors.

Today's knitting tv is Marco Polo and I'm at the part where we're getting all the backstory on Hundred Eyes and Lotus (aka Tom Wu vs Michelle Yeoh) and hot dang is this a smokeshow.

These two and the fight choreography are incredible.
still from Marco Polo in which Hundred Eyes (Tom Wu) faces off against Lotus (Michelle Yeoh).
Tom Wu faces the camera - a tall, slender Hong Kong man with a shaved head, except for a topknot at the back of his head. He's wearing blue-grey robes and has a moustache and goatee.
Michelle Yeoh is on the left, with her back to the camera. Her hair is in both a topknot and a long, low ponytail. She's wearing pale white-grey robes.

I tried a couple of different pre-builds, and this is the one I liked best: very light and small, and very loud (I metered it at >115 dB).

I like the first version better than the "fixed."
Extremely loud and compact emergency whistle by whistleblower
Rock-Solid and lightweight emergency whistle. Two chamber design. Painful loud, louder than the v29 and twice as loud as the "wannabe 129db" whistle. If you have stringing problems, this whistle will n...

🧵I post a lot of funny memes every Indigenous Peoples Day but it actually means a lot to me.

As a detribalized citizen of the Tribal Majority (Mvskoke and Semvnole) who is part of the first generation of our family not to be forced to those reeducation camps

It's a serious annoyance!

I do love when I get to verbally bash the AI "service" in a recorded customer survey, though. That I think is worthwhile. Give me a real human any day and I'm happy, even if the end result isn't what I want.

My folks HATE this stuff.

My mom actually refuses to use the numerical rating systems at all whatsoever.

My dad, as a former manager, is extremely angry that businesses are pushing performance reviews and employee management onto customers.

"please rate your package delivery" i mean ill click the smiley face because i assume it impacts the poor bastard who delivered it but i must impress upon you that forcing both him and i into this situation is an act of utter inhumanity and furthermore that god frowns upon your deeds

I think businesses asking people to rate every single experience has furthered this damage. We shouldn't have this many opinions about this many things, and we certainly shouldn't expect other busy people to care if we do.
raxkingisdead.bsky.social
few ideas have damaged the average psyche more than ‘the customer is always right.’ it should be a little bit humiliating, being a customer. you should walk into any service transaction knowing that the other person, and not you, is in control over whether you get your treats

The Sandhill Crane that was luring us away from the nest did not purr.
I'm curious what this behaviour indicates.

I think i might have heard it 'purring' behind me before I realized it was there.

For many of us, being Indigenous means living btwn worlds, rebuilding what was taken, creating a future where our grandkids won’t have to explain why their heritage matters. We’e the prayers of those who came before us & the proof that their strength worked.

It says something (not good) about the remnants of the hurricane/typhoon over Alaska that this "high pressure system" is at 100.9 kPa.

What do I do about Chuck?

He's too tall and doesn't want to listen to me.
(I keep telling him to grow branches)
A gigantic umbrella tree (the stem is about 5'9" but the upper leaves are just short of the 8' ceiling.

Theis plant has at least a 5 foot span of big green leaves and seems to be fairly pleased with its balcony window domain.

Somehow, in bringing in the Calendula (which are still blooming and have at least 2 more buds!), I also brought in a pollinator?
The calendula, flowering from the indoor side of the glass. A small, new orange flower in lower left, a de-petaled flower in the middle, and a bright yellow flower a few days old in the upper right. Closer-up at the yellow calendula flower, an insect (which was on the stamens a moment ago, crawls across the petals.

Hooray!

It's one of the reasons I've been knitting in the round rather than flat sections I have to sew together.
(Though my first sweater was sewn-together panels and safety pinls really helped me there!)

But truly, all of this is a learning process!
