I just learned today that there are dozens of federal court cases determining which nationalities are white, arising out of the period 1878 - 1952 when only white foreigners could become US citizens. I wonder if any involved Afghans.

This reminds me of the excellent @thisamericanlife.org episode like 20 years ago or something, about Amish rumspringge, in which the formerly Amish guy says, "You can get laid in New York every night if you follow 2 simple rules: Stay at the bar until 4 am, and dramatically lower your expectations."
Once a HS social studies teacher was inexplicably forced to do a day of sex ed and didn’t know what to do, so he told us about a “timekeeper,” who is someone at a bar who you don’t think is attractive enough to hook up with and when you’ve drunk enough for them to be attractive, you should go home.
