Noticing another uptick in fake AI slop food accounts on here... Some link to fake "blogs" with untested recipes and AI photos, others just follow-farm or spam food feeds. I drop all of these into a mod list if you want a one-stop block list that I update whenever I find new ones.
That's also starting from a bulk pantry I built up when I was not just self-employed, with a fully outfitted kitchen, storage space & a chest freezer, & investments in expensive things like canning jars & equipment that get reused every year that I've made over decades of thrifting & sale shopping.

This is going to get incredible use as a meme
The Pope has a baseball bat and he knows how to use it - be warned JD
Trick or tr... uh... nope, also a trick. ☠️
You might not be aware, but back in 2021, I turned candy corn into a hot dog and then ate it. The "recipe" is here if you need it. boundedbybuns.com/the-scariest...

Incredible news — Ruben Torres Maldonado is coming home!

The community came together and worked tirelessly to bring this father back to his family so he can be where he belongs and support his daughter in her fight against cancer.
And that # doesn't count all the meat & fish we got for free from my partner's parents (venison & fish from his retired dad, & stuff they bought on sale in their cheaper COL area & saved in their chest freezer for us to take home when we visit)... or we'd be eating a lot more beans & almost no meat!
yeah this is almost to the dollar what we spent in the past 12 months but there are 2 of us, no kids, I work from home (as a food blogger), have a culinary degree, a garden, chickens, make almost everything from scratch, bulk buy & don't go to restaurants. No way can you work or feed kids for that.

I can’t stress this enough: you cannot understand politics without reading this paragraph about why there’s no such thing as a 1/3rd pound hamburger

YES THIS. If you are one of the "all is lost" people please feel free not to say so in the comments of my posts, it'll save me the two seconds it takes to "hide for everyone" your comments. All is not lost. All is never lost. I prefer not to have you infecting others with your doomerism in my space.
"This fucking sucks" and "all is lost" are two different sentences.

Don't say the second when you mean the first.

I think a lot about the chance we had at the start of COVID to finally become a more compassionate, collectivist nation, and how profoundly we were failed not only by the sociopathic greed of the ruling class but by each other.

It doesn’t mean we won’t get there, but the lost opportunity haunts me.
Remember how just a few years ago during the worst of the pandemic when we saw how the govt can actually do big things and saw that our collective health & well-being are intertwined, and then corporations got mad that they lost a modicum of power and helped fund a backlash of amnesia and fascism?

in Demolition Man, Sylvester Stallone plays a supercop from the violent 1990s frozen in time and sent to the future. He winds up fighting a group of terrorists until he realizes they're just trying to steal food, at which point he refuses to continue attacking them

Absolutely. I still prefer biking to either, bc it's very difficult to make a mistake & kill anyone *else* (also more time-predictable & good endorphin-producing) but I still love public transit! Having it makes biking more feasible (if something goes wrong on long commute, take bike on train/bus).
i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times

And I've noticed that other high-subscriber food writers that didn't seem bothered by all that Substack had become are starting to plan a retreat now too. Several have reached out to me for advice lately. There's another wave coming.
all of this. Since moving to Ghost, a site with nearly zero "network effects," my subscriber numbers have grown (albeit slowly), open rates are higher, and my income has grown, even after subtracting the 10% I'm no longer giving to Substack.
Getting off Substack is the right move. I would compare it to moving from an app like Garageband to Ableton or Logic. Or switching from clip art to creative stock images. My business has grown. My readership has grown. Substack fills your list with junk signups, takes your money, and holds you back.

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

Here is a comprehensive list of why people on SNAP, are on SNAP:
1. They need food assistance.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I am haunted by a post someone in Chicago recently made in a professional networking group I’m a member of, describing the situation in her neighbourhood.

It concluded with the sentence “There’s a whiff of tear gas in the air as we head to Trunk and Treat.”
In my Chicago neighborhood this weekend: candy drive for kids who can't safely go out to trick or treat because of ICE; big visible letter-writing campaign at an outdoor block party; low-flying Blackhawk helicopter over a children's baseball game; whistle brigades everywhere. #chicagostrong

You know what I don't want? My content appearing next to Nazi shit. I don't care if Nazis buy Substack subscriptions too and might be a good revenue stream; I don't want their money, because I don't want them in any community or project I'm trying to build.

A lot of Americans would love to talk about kitchen table issues, unfortunately the kitchen table is being used to barricade the front door because ICE is trying to illegally enter private property to arrest and detain them.

I know it’s too much to expect them to know their history, but if the American Revolution had a motto, it definitely would not have been “immigrants go home.”

It would have been “get your fucking soldiers out of our cities.”
America... boy, I dunno.

For me argentina is the easiest one because there's 40 million people on SNAP and we're giving milei 40 billion. "The president could give every hungry family a thousand dollars right now but he's giving it to argentina instead for no reason at all. He hates america"
“They’ve got money for ICE and golden ballrooms but not for hungry families” is so easy it’s almost funny
Johnson: Snap benefits is a unique situation. I got a summary of the legal analysis…the contingency funds are not legally available to cover the benefits right now
