I bloody love writing. I spent yesterday writing a single paragraph, crafting each sentence like a piece of antique furniture, building a 4 dimensional puzzle out of words and feelings. And today I rewrote it because it was a bit shit. Already looking forward to doing it again tomorrow.

Making a good RPG, or management game, or puzzle game is hard work. It needs game design, careful balancing/difficulty adjustment, programming, assets. And some VN devs are good at writing and drawing, but not necessarily all that.

So while it is a powerful tool... I'm too used to seeing failures.

7. Twelve Word Searches

This is a pen & paper puzzle, but it is best played by writing on a pdf because you will erase a LOT. So I guess it counts as a computer game.

I'm not even halfway through I think but the writing has been really great. My only qualm and this is a necessary tiny spoiler for anyone playing outside the US is the need to check the 'hints' to progress after you solve an early puzzle, but aside from that I approve and cant wait to progress!

Incredible narrative. Fun characters. Incredible writing. Pretty good puzzler. Had me entirely hooked from start to finish. Kept staying up late to play more and more. Obra Dinn tier puzzle game. Extremely recommend.

This attempt recently to act like coming up with prompts is hard work and serious business is so funny to me. Writing prompts to get what you want is not the same as making art, it’s solving a black box puzzle. They are not the same skill at all, and acting like they are is ridiculous.

Also since getting the idea yesterday I am positively vibrating with excitement about the idea of writing a Python script to convert a text using the Playfair cipher, the one used in Have His Carcase by Dorothy L Sayers. Undoubtedly someone will have done this before but it seems like a fun puzzle!

Can I go in on Glitch as a character, because honestly she's everything wrong with modern Insomniac writing. She's part of your typical 'puzzle to open door sequence' that's in every R&C ever, though they make the laudable decision to have it be a shoot em up within a shoot em up.

Amidst the magic, I met someone who completed my world in ways unfathomed by me. And a lot of it is about the body and the intertwining of the body and the mind. You would think that after all our insistence on the healing benefits of bodywork, I would have been an expert. But I wasn’t. And funny enough, it was not just that my body suddenly experienced the intense proximity of a loved body, nor was it exclusively the hours spent in being explored by my love and exploring my love, nor the hours spent intertwined in intimate sensations while thinking together. For me the most striking revelation came when my love asked me to stand naked in front of a mirror and to look at myself, to see myself. I am not a young person, but this was the first time that I actually looked, the first time that I actually saw myself, and I realised that this had been a missing piece of the puzzle. I had gained some connection to my body over the decades, but in order to truly bond you have to see. My love calls it the Thinker’s Mirror, for all those who are in danger of disappearing in their minds, and who occasionally need a reminder that they are also a body, a body which is at its best when nurtured and used.
