YEAH as someone living in Louisiana, every bayou scene felt completely spot on, they captured the American South and its history and culture sooooooo well!!!! And it even gets down to the small details, like houses with haint blue!!!

Youre overthinking it, as a Cajun. Nearly no white people believe this stuff anymore, & most people who do believe in Voodoo, Houdoo & Haint even a little are Black & disenfranchised. Plus, if they were going to do good luck stuff, they wouldnt use a representative effigy, it'd be a ritual.

See, round these parts , Summer’s jes some wavy lines On the crest of the hill The mist of hot water Floatin’ like ghosts Runnin’ from bottle trees and haint blue. The fall’s covered in colors Grey/green mountains givin’ way To reds and oranges and the like, ‘Till it all turn brown and drop low as an ankle-biter. Winner ain’t nuthin much.
