Roddenberry was an idealist, and the idea that you could have Utopia and the universe would somehow let it be is absurd. That’s why the Klingons and Romulans always pivoted to essentially mocking it as a mouthpiece for the writers accepting reality. And why Starships have “pew pews”.

National Science Fiction Day — cozy storm outside, mind zooming to starships & slow-burn futures. Sketching a lone observatory on a rain-washed cliff. Sci-fi = hope with messy humanity. What world are you escaping to tonight? 🌌🛰️🌧️ #2January #SciFiDay

It also in a fucked up way explains why Starfleet ships so often travel alone. If the Federation was formed by a man scarred by the memory of an innocent ship being taken over by the enemy he might urge Starfleet against convoys incase the convoys allow starships to turn on each other.

Because a simulation wouldn't bother with other lives, they'd just move the goalposts so far away that finding out would be impossible.

Hence, why everything is so far that only dreams of starships can reach.

Another aspect I won't be explaining is galactic space travel. This walks hand-in-hand with the species responsible for space travel in the galaxy (the Hrathians), as well as the very nature of the Starchilds (the ancient starships) and their creators (Astrids).

Well, as it's quite far out I suppose there's little reason to be cagey.

Not all sentient starships view their crew as symbiotic. Some view them as parasites.

Let's just say if you met an officer from the Empire... No, you didn't.

You met a rotting puppet with mycelial strings.

Fungi are scary.

Instead of a computer, Mycelial Starships have a sentient network of mycelium. It communicates verbally. How is horrific but you see that.

But why do they have sentience? Personalities? Differing moralities?

Hell, if I know. Fungi are weird.

#JanuaryWorldbuilders, good day! In worldbuilding, sometimes we get deep into figuring out how things work because we want to explain it to the reader. Today, I ask you for the opposite: what is something that you intend to leave mysterious? What doesn't get explained?

Given how many Starships have exploded under test, maybe calcified=favoured designs that *worked*.

One thing that stuck with me was a comment by a teacher I knew in Rwanda - she was a big scifi nerd - who commented that there could be starships parked over the earth in orbit and their shadows would still likely fall on women hoeing plots for cassava.

Just like Jedi Bob's Starfighter. So many Lego sets miss this vital component of starships, so it's great they're not skimping on bananas this time. Then you make a special compartment and seal it away🍌

It's important nobody can interfere with your banana for nefarious purposes, don't you think?☺️

- Une année (de nouveau) charnière pour Starship avec le test du V3, un nouveau pas de tir et même peut-être un premier tir depuis la Floride. Mais aussi du ravitaillement sur orbite et la récupération des Starships.
