The second he realizes how smart Blake is, he starts thinking about him as Plan B for Lucifer should he die.

Waiting in front of these doors was a middle-aged man with a jutting paunch, smug smile, and a thin combover. He wore an official-looking jacket, bright red with a white sash pinned from shoulder to hip. As the group neared, he raised his hand, bringing them to a halt. “Welcome to the Golden Palace,” he said to the Katorgans in a high voice that grated on Daemrin’s ears. He spoke Imperial slowly, over-enunciating his words. “I’m Senan Wellay, Minister of Foreign Affairs. As you are foreign, I’m happy to assist in your… business transaction with the king.” “Where is he?” Daemrin asked. Wellay’s smile grew tight. “Just inside the Great Hall here. He’s in the middle of holding court, and we shouldn’t interrupt him.” “Sounds like the perfect time to interrupt him, actually.” Daemrin moved to shove past, but the guards flanking Wellay crossed their pikes in front of him, blocking Daemrin’s path. “I’m afraid you’re not permitted inside,” said the minister from behind the barrier. “Hand over Gillain to me, and I’ll wire your money to your account of choice.” Daemrin turned his head so the full visage of his helmet’s front bore down upon the smaller man. “I don’t think so. We went through this same bullshit back at the spaceport and I’m not about to go over it again. Let us through.”

Duels of Blood (Daisuke impedes traffic and Obito’s ability to think)
“You did promise to behave.” “Admittedly, a huge mistake on my part. Sojiro’s probably loads of fun to mess with.” Obito rolled his eyes. When he didn’t answer, Daisuke whirled around with a flap of his damp cloak, eyes bright and grin full of mischief as he kept walking backwards. A few people complained at his obliviousness, but ultimately went around him without directly confronting him—typical for Kinumura’s locals. “Fine,” he told Obito, batting his eyelashes. “I’ll only bully you while we’re here.” Obito grabbed him by the shoulders and spun him around once more, ignoring his indignant yelp and how warm his own face became at the little pest’s teasing. “Stop that. We have work to do.”

From The Magic in Our Bones 🦴⛓️
Black text, green background, no highlight "No," I shout and run after them. I reach for his hand, but miss it. "Nico. No, don't you guys dare--" We're almost to the end of the aisle when our fingertips touch, but I slam into a barrier, my body suddenly unwilling to move forward. Eve pulls him up in front of the table and turns him to face the audience. Nico just lets her. I fight with everything I have to move, to do anything at all, but my body is locked into position. I can't even move a pinkie from my hand outstretched before me. I glare at Dorothy. "This is what you did to my dad, huh? Just lock him in his body so he can't move. Hasn't he suffered enough, then? And, now, what? The Council's purpose is to humiliate a teenage boy in front of everyone? Is that what you guys do? Just make everyone's life hell?" "Hush, dear," Dorothy says, and my mouth is bound as tightly as the rest of my body, even if those bindings are invisible. I redouble my glare, or at least I hope my facial features show exactly how I'm feeling inside. They're probably botox-stiff too, but I think my vilest thoughts at her, anyway. "The Clearborne family has made a sympathetic plea. Nicholas was 'saving' his son. Wouldn't you all do the same? Lilia claims we wish to humiliate him. Rose believes she was making his life easier to manage. But here's the truth." She waves her hand and exposes Nico, my brother, who wouldn't hurt a bug, even if it was endangering a tomato he was growing, as the living skeleton he is, as if showing the torch-wielding mob that the monster has been in their midst the whole time. Meanwhile, I'm seething, mentally screaming at them that I will become the monster they fear and slaughter them in their sleep. It's probably to my benefit that Dorothy shut me up, to be honest.

From #Tenement, my dystopian mystery about people living in an infinite building.
Some of the comments, however, had been written by my mother. My heart did a little dance the first time I recognized her loose, looping cursive. I’d had no idea that I would find her own words here in these pages. It was almost like being able to hear her voice again after all these years. Her comments were different from the ones left by the Librarians. She was always trying to draw the story back to our world—looking for a meaning beyond simple definitions. “The people are unable to see their true reality. Is it the same for us?” She had tried to tell me years ago. We were all wearing green spectacles. We were all looking through lenses that limited our view, blocked out all other colors, all other possibilities. There could be different ways. There could be other worlds. Had my mother finally made it to her own Oz? Why hadn’t she taken me with her?

2,499 words today. I wrote the only loving spicy scene (as it's a flashback during a... private activity 😅) and, HOLY SHIT, I think I wrote the darkest part of the story and it's before he meets Dracula.

At 13.7k words. Tomorrow should be it. Then a speedrun edit.

I may release this one for free.
