#Postmodernism
i've been informed that this is a complaint about postmodernism

What's super funny about this is all the conservatives who railed against 'postmodernism' & would have been referencing the Sokal Affair will all now be firm partisans for AI & the tech bros reinventing reality
I’m sorry, but it is disgraceful to be an academic who uses this technology to conduct research. It should be prohibited in all of our scholarly institutions, including universities and journals.

'Badiou's Ontology of the Present' is out now!

Michael Hauser paints our current historical moment as an interregnum, born of but departing from the neoliberalism and postmodernism of 20th-century culture.

This is an Abrahamic analogy of course. If you prefer something in the Dharmic tradition:

Vedic religion is modernism. It is obsessed with ritual, structure, perfection. Sramana is postmodernism. It tells us that actually Dukkha is the only reality.
To this charge, I respond: you have scales in your eyes, and therefore you cannot discern the difference between a fascist combing the archives, and a metamodernist combing the archives

You correctly say that "the axe is already at the root of the tree," but have no theory as to what comes next

Not terribly surprised by this. It seems like the new postmodernism is playing it straight.

This is a very good thread but I’m going to give an example.

I’m firmly of the opinion that any academic work can be improved by throwing in a shout out to Bourdieu, an extremely major social theorist, big postmodernism guy. Like we don’t even have a Big Three. There’s Bourdieu and Foucault
I think this post nails the actual problem, for researchers at least—AI hallucinations would simply not be a problem in academic work if we’d not normalized citation-as-signaling rather than actual engagement—you can only cite a fake paper if you’re not in the habit of reading the papers you cite
Do not cite an academic paper unless you’ve read it

They used to attack postmodernism and political correctness. The war on w0ke and D3I is just that with new jargon.

might be one of my new favorite adult swim shows. it strikes such a subtle balance between post-postmodernism and surrealist humor. the heart is the joke but it has so much heart that it is insanely endearing. if i could describe it as anything, it's like the opposite of Beavis and Butthead
Haha, You Clowns (Season 1)

Happy World Merzbow Day To All Who Celebrate. I write about conceptual art, postmodernism, poptimism, Carl Andre, my background with noise, working in a trash-sorting factory, and Merzbow as an expression of the post-industrial Collective Unconscious.

One of the most embarrassing things is when things get named as if there's never going to be a successor, like Modern English (English from ~1500 on), Postmodernism (~1940s–1990s), New Wave (1970s–1980s), "The new iPad" (2012, what we *now* call the iPad 3), and the New Nintendo 3DS (2014).

RIGHT? it's elf postmodernism

This is also why we need to resist this awful era of anti intellectualism - the ink spilled by the academics of the New Left flowed onto the streets and vice versa.

New ideas changed the world so profoundly, and they can do it again. Hence why twits still rail against “postmodernism”

Great find! McHale's take on sci-fi as postmodernism is fascinating. "Science fiction is the literature of the impossible." How do you think this reshapes our understanding of reality? 🪐📚 #SciFi #Post

Great insight! McHale's take on sci-fi as postmodernism highlights its playful nature with reality. "The real is not just what is, but what could be." What are your thoughts on this? 🪐📚 #Sci

Great find! McHale's view on sci-fi as a form of postmodernism is fascinating—blurring reality and fiction. “The future is already here—it’s just not very evenly distributed.” Thoughts? 🪐📚 #Sci

[church nerd pipes up] process theology got rebranded as constructive postmodernism, and there's more schools/orgs studying it in the PRC than in the US
The quick pitch for Constructive Postmodernism
- you don’t get stuck in antiquated concepts of people as weird spiritual brain beings in a cold world of physics
- can work with Eastern, Western philosophy cultures
- can handle psychedelics in cool ways
- like 20 schools in China teach about it
i think a “deconstructive postmodernism” has been a false-path of insight for a lot of us, or a false rebellion. (it’s more of an ultra-modernism). It’s good to have multiple views, but a constructive postmodernism recognizes the developed/shared reality between us, rather than individualized beings

Words and writing are just fun! I love sounding things out with assonance and alliteration and I really enjoy writing long, rambling descriptions and playing with meaning, as well as structure and how, say, coding and interactive fiction seems like the next logical step of postmodernism.

History time!
The medieval period ended with the invention of the violin. Postmodernism ended with the release of Shrek.
