Ugh. NSF requires using proprietary software (Microsoft excel) to do one of the required documents for proposals. It can clearly read my Google-sheets-generated excel file just fine based on the import preview but then *refuses* to generate the required PDF because I made it in google

This was my thought as well. I do recall hearing that Microsoft was sick of the games division and wanted to pivot to corporate software, which would explain why Excel and AI buttons are located on their switch competitor.
From reading this it does seem like the exec at Microsoft thinks Xbox is a sinkhole and wants to kill it. It was already at 20%! It's already profitable!

My dad splurged on a new laptop with Microsoft 11. He keeps having to send me documents to adjust the file types or alter things such as "add back the grid lines in Excel" because none of it works correctly. At first I thought it was him being a boomer, but no. It's the mess that is 365 Copilot.

Time for me to be aggrieved by the most trivial of things, but I cannot stand the new icon updates for Office. The satin-y pastel veneer slapped over featureless blobs. The increasing likelihood they were mined from prompt generators. The assumption their ubiquity transcends the need for good design

I got the solution. Uninstall Excel, download an Apple II emulator, and use VisiCalc because we’ve reached the point where a spreadsheet program from 1979 is more useful than anything Microsoft will put out anymore
