#GeoTracking
I remember the NYT did an analysis of cell phone geotracking back in August 2019, and I bought a Faraday pouch shortly thereafter.

The NYT later applied their learning to J6. Both are gift links.

Not that I plan criming.

Just picked up a copy from my local bookstore in Bellingham, Washington (Pacific Northwest), if you're doing some geotracking. Your link helps the store source it.

All the best. Look forward to reading it. (After Xmas: it's my husband's present.)

I know Twitter rolled out its geotracking update. It's a scary move, tech companies shouldn't be allowed to do that.

Right?
Was talking to a (Hispanic…it’s relevant) former coworker last weekend and he was telling me about the company he started to do OS geotracking. He’s trying to get a contract with DHS. Our jobs sometimes required mental compartmentation, but that’s some next level partitioning.

that **** dude always looking a lil funny in the light. first there was letting people buy Ally passes into the server, now there's flipflopping on whether it *does* rely on geotracking because people are still getting the age verification pop-up

My car is basically a phone so I do need to either figure out how to shut that down or find another way to get there.
Also note to self to remind stepkid & their spouse that the used car we gave them ALSO has geotracking, so they should drive their other one to protests.
“But your phone will say that you’re there anyway”

Did you know you don’t need to bring your phone to protests? Fun fact.

they didn't disappear they pivoted with the data they built from running a fun geotracking game into a dystopian API built to track you everwhere that multiple companies bought into. They were not so secretly powering rewards programs for physical stores for quite a while. They just went full B2B

However, tolling does NOT require geotracking. Again, even here we already do tolling. I run the northern section all the time and pay my tolls. Not once has that camera failed to identify my car going past. That feels perfectly sufficient.

For people who still use Spotify I would like to once again bring up that Tidal's family plan supports 6 people and has no geotracking. Do you and 5 other people still pay 12$ for Spotify? Well now it can be you and 5 other people spending 3$ for a >>>>Better<<<< service.

Most generous interpretation I can give it is that they're trying to use what is presumably always-on geotracking of their drivers' apps (!) to heatmap frequent presence at a hostel. Barking mad. There's really no sense to this.

Also its a full scale game, playable in both landscape and portrait and also uses geotracking as its main gimmick. Way too ambitious and none of their mobile games do well enough to justify that.
July 20, 2025 at 8:04 PM
you sometimes encounter this idea that that work isn't important because research now is all genomics and computer simulations of range shifts and geotracking tech, but good uses of that work are based on solid natural history- which often is from historic sources!

Ah, an das Geotracking habe ich gar nicht gedacht. Das ist das wirklich wesentlich einfacher so.
Danke für die Erklärung!

THAT'S WHY YOU TURN YOUR PHONE OFF! THEY CANNOT TRACK YOU THEN. DO NOT FALL FOR "EMERGENCY ALERT" IT'S A SCAM. THEY ARE GEOTRACKING YOU RIGHT NOW.

AGAIN TURN YOUR PHONE OFF DURING EMERGENCY SYSTEM TESTS.
Hello Norway. Did you enjoy waking up from your nap by the emergency systems running a test? Sirens, mobiles screaming at you?

Fuckers!

And turn geotracking off on your photos.

The problem with things like speed cameras, databases, geotracking, etc. isn't the technology, but the fact that the police as currently constructed are a vulgar street gang in all but name. The solution isn't to dispose of the technology, but to slash-and-burn police departments nationally
no you see cops are an inherently higher caste than the rest of us, so being degraded to being an ordinary person is already enough punishment for his repeated victimization of society's weakest under the guise of law
Unreal.

"Under the plea agreement which dismissed the felony charge of grand theft, former Glenn County sheriff's deputy John Sanzone agreed to return the $3,500 he stole from a homeless man who had been saving it for badly needed dental work."
