Watching Van Johnson in Go For Broke (1951).

It’s an interesting little artifact about the 442nd Infantry Regiment. Reflection on racial prejudice and what it means to be an American.

Hegseth's favourite word is “warfighter”, and he disparages diversity.

The most decorated unit in American history, the 442nd, was almost entirely Japanese-American soldiers from Hawaii.

Native code talkers were used to transmit secret messages in WWII. Their communications were never broken.

Billionaire racist Elon Musk, erasing the fact that millions of “multicultural Americans” have died defending multicultural America, often while white supremacists like Elon Musk fought tooth and nail to deny them the basic civil rights accorded to white Americans.

Some of the people who served and died defending a "multicultural economic zone";

Musk, a goddamn spineless coward who could never aspire to even an nth of their bravery, dishonors their memory.

The thing that always stands out to be in Band of Brothers is the fact that almost all the main characters are either immigrants or children of immigrants.

The fact that the 442nd could have taken out the 14th Army on their own given the right equipment and support means Musk can go fuck himself.

BRB building a time machine so some dudes from the 442nd Regimental Combat Team can kick the shit out of this clown.

Non-Christian Americans sacrificed for our country, too.

Born in Tacoma and raised in Fife, Washington, George was later incarcerated at Puyallup and Minidoka. Drafted in 1944, he served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Europe and was awarded the Purple Heart for his actions in the Battle of the Gothic Line.

A good follow-up about "fighting culture" being so paramount among white ethnic groups is, why was the all-Asian/Pacific Islander 442nd Infantry Regiment the most decorated US combat group of WW2?

And then also, why did Hegseth try pulling the 442's gov't website?

The 442nd Regimental Combat Team, a segregated unit consisting of Japanese Americans during World War II, is the U.S. military's most decorated unit, including 21 Medal of Honor recipients.

For the 442nd consecutive day, Georgians are protesting in the streets of 8+ cities. This is Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi.

There are principles I was taught as a child and still believe. The 442nd Regimental Combat Team taught me this one. "Americanism is a matter of the mind and heart; Americanism is not, and never was, a matter of race or ancestry."

My Nisei stepdad's elderly father died in camp while he was kicking Nazi ass with 442nd in Italy, France and Germany. His mom & sister had enough to eat, but the 40 year old family farm above Dana Point was scooped up by what is now the Irvine Company. They were allowed some plates and flatware.
don't get me wrong, that was a *horrible* crime but for the most part people had enough to eat, some medical care, exercise, reading materials, etc

Nah, the US treated poc like complete shit in the 40s. (And the current administration is grossly trying to erase their contributions today because they're racist fascists.)

The Harlem Hellfighters, Redtails, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, etc, etc, etc. may want a word. What a ridiculous coward he is.

My family faced americas racist hatred too during ww2, locked into internment camps for being suspected spies.

My grandfather still enlisted with the 442nd and still put bullets into fascists heads

Whats going on in america needs that same fire to protect those you love, for family and friends

Today in 1943, during World War II, one of America’s most highly decorated military units, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, made up almost exclusively of Japanese-Americans, was activated.

While their innocent families were wrongly incarcerated...

Lee Ikegami's uncles served in what history now recognizes as the most celebrated Japanese American fighting force of World War II: the 100th Infantry Battalion and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team the legendary “Go For Broke” regiment.

He is not forgotten everywhere. I live a half block from the Korematsu Middle School next door to a woman who was interned who is the widow of a man who served in the 442 Combat Regiment.
If you don’t know the story of the 442nd you should look it up.

I don't know what to say anymore, especially after today. They'll soon eliminate every reference to the 442nd, the Fred Korematsus and the Manzanars. It hurts the snowflakes.
January 30, 2026 at 6:33 PM
Damn right.
The 442nd remains the most highly-decorated unit in US military history and was comprised of Japanese-Americans - fought w/ honor in Europe as racists thought they couldn't be trusted against Japanese troops.

Interesting contrast as we again put American citizens in concentration camps.
There are still flickers of the other America. "Seven Japanese American soldiers were promoted to officer ranks in a solemn ceremony Monday, eight decades after they died fighting for the U.S. during World War II despite having been branded 'enemy aliens.'" www.politico.com/news/2026/01...
Japanese American soldiers once branded ‘enemy aliens’ promoted posthumously
The seven men died fighting in Europe in 1944.

Hey @hoosierhomer.bsky.social any books you or your compadres might recommend about the 442nd Infantry Regiment?

Agree on that!!!
Attention all you elected Democrats, put our tax dollars and our contributions to good use and get your asses out there.
Take a page out the STORIED 442nd Regiment and fight tooth and nail for what’s right and for our Democracy.

#WWII “Although these men did not have the opportunity to complete their university studies, they’ve earned their degrees in full through their unwavering service and sacrifice on behalf of a grateful nation.” They enlisted in the storied ranks of the 442nd RCT.
