As promised, a thread on (Bavarian) German christmas bakery. 'Tis the season, after all. One of the oldest examples popular in southern Germany and Austria is the Kletzenbrot. Kletzen are dried pears and the rural population would add the dried pears to their bread during advent. Any sweetness 🍜

This shouldn't surprise us. The universities in Germany fell easily to the Nazis, and some of America's universities have buckled quickly under Trump. It's a myth that universities are liberal and woke- there are plenty of reactionary academics around

This is what I've come to, putting the finishing touches to a batch of ginger molasses sandwich biscuits at 11 o'clock on a Friday night. I used to be cool*

A pile of surprisingly neat sandwich biscuits on a white side plate. The biscuits are crinkly, and a deep, rich golden brown, they were rolled in sanding sugar before baking. They are sandwiched with a vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream that I made from a packet, not even I'm willing to fuck about with egg whites at this time of night.
