Paying workers less to churn out slop..

I think this is being McDonald's MO since it's inception.

Something bleakly funny about replacing real unionised actors and film crews making your Christmas ad, not with, say, a horribly crunched traditional animation crew but with horribly crunched, AI prompt writers pumping out creepy uncanny slop.

AI, the magical tool that will make everything great.
McDonald's has released an AI-generated Christmas ad

The studio behind it says they 'hardly slept' for several weeks while writing AI prompts and refining the shots — 'AI didn't make this film. We did'

The calls from America this weekend to "abolish the EU" are for one simple reason: the EU is the only thing that can keep European nation-states from becoming Russian or American vassals.
The US has declared rhetorical war on the EU
The calls from America this weekend to destroy the EU are revealing. They hate the union because it's the only thing that can keep European countries from being Russian or American vassals.

My grandpa was born in the US to German parents. He had younger cousins who were in Hitler youth in Germany. Decades later I talked with some of them about it (with the ruthless candor of youth). Why did you do that? What were you thinking? What they described was a lot like this.

I’m not gonna be one of those too cool for school guys who acts like he’s outgrown Tarantino, because he’s made movies that are still some of my favorites of all time, but is he really the person to be talking about how a movie would be great but for one really bad actor

The BBC News at Six is highly misleading. They present the story as if the bigot has won the case, which is false. To make matters worse, they end with their editor reading a proclamation “of the Supreme Court” that is entirely incorrect.

It’s very funny to me that countries are trying to pass laws banning teens from social media until they’re older and can “handle it” as if the last decade hasn’t been about watching rich middle aged men nuke their brains on Twitter and then run the USA via shitpost.
Dude. Yes. Alito and Thomas are of course the standout examples, but all of the Republican justices have tells in their writing and their questioning indicating that they are, to varying degrees, marinating their brains in dumb bitch juice
My theory, fwiw, is that Supreme Court Justices are not immune to Twitter brain poisoning. I suspect all six have horrific information environments and have therefore lost the ability to understand the people who don't agree with them.

My thread earlier focused on the discussion re. FWS - but I just want to draw this out really explicitly:

The press absolutely monstered Dr Beth Upton in the most appalling way – only for the Tribunal to find that Beth had done nothing wrong, but that Sandie Peggie had harassed her.
Also worth noting, the Tribunal found that Sandie Peggie had harassed Dr Beth Upton in a "hate incident".

so Beth Upton was - very publicly - put through hell, monstered, harassed, abused by the press, by politicians, by her opponents lawyers and by the most rabid, fanatical online hate movement for... nothing

Dunno but being found to have lied to the tribunal looks rather like a bad outcome for Peggie. Naomi Cunningham, who represented her also got a roasting by the tribunal. How does that ruling reflect badly on Upton, who was completely exonerated, I wonder?

Only bit of Sandie Peggie's case that was upheld was essentially NHS Fife made a major clerical error in how it handled the case. All the "discriminated against for being a TERF" stuff was thrown out.

Yet in the press this has translated as being victorious against the poisonous trans mind virus.
I think Joani Reid is a disgrace, actually.

I take the point, but given the likes of Musk and Altman are wrong far more than 60% of the time every time I'd say there's always been one rule for some of us and another for others. That this technology is pushed by those exact same guys may explain why it's inexplicably given the same leeway.
Gen AI chatbots return the wrong answer on average 60 PERCENT OF THE TIME, per new study by Colombia Journalism Review

Imagine if you did your job badly 60 percent of the time. Would you receive trillions in investments? Or would you be fired and labelled unusable? www.cjr.org/tow_center/w...

After admitting "She has not succeeded in the other legal claims she made, against Dr Upton and against NHS Fife" the analysis says "It will surely mean big changes to how employers have to act." Maybe? But not towards trans employees, since the upheld points weren't directly related to that aspect.

Yeah, I just had to dig through the BBC liveblog, past analysis about her "partial victory", to find the bit that explains NHS Fife has been found to have mishandled some aspects of her complaint, but the actual complaint hasn't been upheld at all.
It’s maddening that I just heard this tribunal decision covered on BBC News, which led with “Sandie Peggie wins her case,” expanded with “Sandie Peggie secures a partial victory,” then only on listening further did it become clear she actually lost on most of the substantive points she was pursuing.
Decision in the Sandie Peggie case.

She was not directly or indirectly discriminated against, her claim of victimisation fails entirely, her claim of harassment fails largely and her claim against Beth Upton fails entirely. www.judiciary.uk/judgments/sa...
