Hey @nature.com, have you got an explanation for how the hell THIS happened? & especially why you accepted a paper with such a bizarre piece of genAI slop in it?!
& more to the point, why we should take you seriously at all going forward?

I have been looking at Black Friday sales for a week but I do not actually need anything so instead I closed all those tabs and bought a Polaroid for a foster kid in Florida who uses photography to deal with big feelings. Perhaps you would like to do the same for one of the kids at the link below?
🧵 We are, in fact, doing the thing again for @onesimplewish.bsky.social. In 2024, the kind people of this community put the money cannon on blast to help grant $75K in wishes for children in foster care. Toys, tech, a suit for job interviews. Here we go again! 👇

This Indigenous Peoples Day please speak up: another typhoon sweeping away homes of Alaska's Natives, who, during settlement (statehood: 1948) were forced to end ways of life (like my Grandma's) involving mobility across regions & stuck them in flood-prone/unstable villages with housing deficits.

The Plymouth County Correctional Facility is the only ICE detention center in Massachusetts and the linchpin to ICE's infrastructure in New England. It seems like the easiest way to weaken this infrastructure is for the Mass. legislature to pass a law terminating any county-level contracts with ICE.

So what I'm hearing is that I should move _Dead End: Paranormal Park_ higher up on my to-watch list.
2. On Monday, Libs of TikTok—the far-right account notorious for stoking violent threats against LGBTQ+ people—erupted over a kids’ show featuring a transgender character. The target was Dead End: Paranormal Park, and the outrage quickly snowballed.

Taking this prompt to note that NewFest has a lot of its programming available for streaming (Oct 9-21, $14.50/program or $95 pass for all 26) -- about half shorts programs, half feature-length (fiction and documentary). newfest.org/events/?_fil...

True that you can't book *currently,* but I live in one of the listed states (MA), and CVS gives me lots of appointment options starting Sept 4 (which I assume is the new booster).
NEWS: CVS, the largest pharmacy chain in the country, is currently not offering Covid vaccines in 16 states and DC — even to people who meet the new FDA criteria — because the CDC hasn't signed off and isn't expected to do so (if it does so) for at least three weeks.

The scavenger hunt is using NYC mayoral history to paint Mamdani as firmly within the mainstream of that history. On age. On DSA membership. On public transportation policy. It's such a smart way to launch the general election campaign.
OMG the Mamdani campaign is utterly brilliant. Chef's kiss. Art.
We have Clue #3!!

I don't know which NYC Mayor this is, but I'm willing to bet location 3 is the Staten Island Ferry — which is FREE!

If you’re wondering how you can help DC residents right now, donate to Remora House if you can afford to do so.

They’ve been on the ground supporting and advocating for unhoused people in DC for several years, and your donation goes directly to supporting the people affected by these sweeps.
IF YOU SEE AN ENCAMPMENT BEING CLEARED TONIGHT

DM us location & what details you have (what police, how many, movements, vehicles)

If you see someone being detained get as much info as possible:
- legal name
- DOB
- emergency contact/case worker
- where they are being taken (precinct or hospital)

The Witch King (& The Fae Keeper) by H.E. Edgmon (duology)
Let’s try something. Hold up your hand. Can you think of five different books/movies/games with a transmasculine character or that in another way discuss transmasculinity? Take your time.

Hey all, super excited to announce I've had the pleasure of chatting recently with Jamie Berrout, who's been working with Mariposas Negras, a transfemme sex worker activist and art collective based out of Mexico City.

They're launching a Spanish-language publication called Trans y Fugas! 🇲🇽 👀

Today is a rough day, and I donated to a couple of the GFMs listed in this article as a way to materially aid some of the people most in need.
Pride Month may be over, but transfem authors still need your support!!!

Our community raised 64% of our $5000 goal by the end of June 🥳🩷

Your reward was to set my reading goal for the rest of the year, which is now 26 books. Wayyy too easy 😏

If we hit 4k? I'll double that.

If we hit 5k? TRIPLE

Heads up, the fight is not over with respect to the trans care medicaid amendment. Marjorie Taylor Greene has reintroduced it on the House side. Call your house reps now and tell them not to approve it. Even republicans, especially moderate Republicans.
News: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has introduced an amendment to the reconciliation bill to bring back the Medicaid ban on gender-affirming care

The Senate removed it this morning and the parliamentarian disqualified the provision from reconciliation
