Important thread.
Men aren’t born with a propensity to commit acts of sexual violence. It is socialized behavior, often learned through abuse itself. Take fraternities and hazing as one example. The slightly older students beat the younger ones and the cycle continues year after year. Sports teams, armies, the same.

Never say never. Any organizer can tell you that 100% participation in anything is rare (& it does sometimes happen). Also, speaking against your own desire makes you your own enemy. Eyes on the prize - we don't need absolutely everyone on board to win.
But this has always been the crux of the issue - people cannot unite. Decades long propaganda has created social silos. If the 99% saw each other as one community, it would be the end of all oppression, but it’s never going to happen.

With so many of us watching the tremendous mobilizations in Minneapolis, culminating in the call to action against ICE today, I wanted to share some of what I have gathered from talking to comrades in Minneapolis over the past few weeks. A few things stood out:

Very helpful thread!
It really doesn't matter *what* the threat is; deep, relationship-based organizing is ALWAYS how you effectively push back against those who would attack your community.

Community and workplace relationship-building is NEVER a waste, it is trust-rooted, and there are no shortcuts.

Anytime I see numbers showing that Asian people are less underwater than others, I wish we were actually fucking teaching the history of Asian people in this country.

Instead, maybe people are told that Chinese laborers built the railroads in the mid-1800s and then... like, nothing at all.

The level of racism and transphobia and shear callousness involved in people outside the US looking at what the US government is doing to people of color and trans folks here, some of whom are US citizens, and saying “these people are privileged” is intense

Trump is right: White people have been treated badly. But not in the way he says. False claims of white superiority that white leaders have long fed to the masses have failed white poor and working class ppl by distracting them from their own exploitation. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/11/u...

I don't think it matters what we do or don't do as far as the regime trying to cancel elections, martial law, the insurrection act. If we fight back or stay peaceful, they will try it all anyway.

So many in media are ill-equipped to interview officials about what’s happening because they begin with the presumption of legitimacy and don’t know enough about history or U.S. foreign policy to foment intelligent pushback and hold officials accountable.

Again, this take is why Trump is president today. 🤷🏿‍♂️

1. The year in which cops killed the most people? During Biden years.

2. Mass incarceration (ramped up under Reagan using Biden policies) was finally turning around and decreasing under Bush, Obama, and Trump. Under Biden, it increased again.
The Biden years were really good years; outside being very personally unlucky, if you couldn't make it use of that labor market, and those conditions, then that's kind of a fucking you problem.

All the more impressive considering that Sharon Begley was a truly decent and lovely human being.
pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Have you ever heard that Oregon has the ugliest, most racist white people? It's because of welfare

In 1850, the US tried to build an all-white state. But only single white men showed up, so they had to create the biggest land welfare program in history.

I WISH I could make this shit up.
