MLK was only 39 when he was killed. Growing up, I thought that was old. But I’m 43 now and I’m stunned by the burden he shouldered at such a young age. I’m also a lot more aware of how hard it is, at any age, to carry the hopes and dreams of an oppressed people on your shoulders, as so many do.

The destruction doesn't make for a photo-op like tearing down the East Wing of the White House or bulldozing the Rose Garden, but it's every bit as bad. Generations of American children learned to spell and count, learned the Preamble to the Constitution, from watching shows produced by the CPB.

PSA: It’s not too late to get your flu shot, as the record-breaking flu season will continue for several months.

While this year’s shot is not a perfect match for the current strain, it will still reduce your chances of getting infected and help protect you from getting seriously ill. Do it now!

Lots of private companies are relying on memory-unsafe code created by open source volunteers a long time ago. It's not getting replaced because private companies mostly don't do costly things for the common public good without making money. Governments are needed to do this.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

First-of-a-kind study shows encouraging data for trans kids who socially transition
Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

L: It's yes or no, Brendan! On your website, it simply says, man, 'the FCC is independent.' This isn't a trick question

We all know this is a lie, but can we stop valorizing this shit?

Sleeping this little actually really fucks you up and you make bad decisions. It makes you irritable. It fucks up your memory. It reduces your ability to react calmly and rationally.

MIKE JOHNSON: More. More. And I have to, because President Trump works 21 hours a day.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

This kind of spying is already against the law, namely the Privacy Act of 1974. The original intent of that law (epic.org/the-privacy-...) was clearly to prohibit the kind of thing CBP, ICE, and DOGE are doing now:

You can make art.

The biggest step isn't getting good at art, it's being willing to make art that doesn't match the idea of "good art" in your head.

Making a lot of imperfect art is an essential step toward making perfect art; a counterproductive goal you shouldn't have anyway.

Just make art.

IMO the US needs a framework akin to the Green New Deal, but for the move to single-payer (New Deal for Health?)

Single-payer will eliminate some 2M insurance-related jobs, but if we incorporate a major investment at NIH, we can put people to work improving healthcare instead of blocking it.
the backlash in the dem party to the whole concept of fancy email/spreadsheet jobs needs to end soon. this could create good jobs for people of all education levels: researchers, lab techs, scicomm people, support workers for things like childcare. unionized, highly paid, in service of one mission.
The US should triple the NIH budget.

So on Epstein, the Democratic position should be "Trump should resign." If you are a Democratic elected, practice saying "We demand the president's resignation" in front of a mirror as many times as it takes until the dry-heaving that comes from having a phobia about actually doing politics passes.

Republicans said no.

So all the lies they tell every day about things Dems are asking for is BS.
Republicans OWN this shutdown.
