There is a significantly greater than zero chance that they try running the Donbas playbook with Alberta and very few people in the US are willing to take that and all of the implications of it seriously

you can’t fucking dox a public official!

somehow i have pissed off both BlueAnon and quasi-left twitter by saying that Obama was the best president within my lifetime with Biden a close second (but that the bar is so low in the US to be considered a "good" president)

He rose to power on an anti-American, anti-Trump message. That's not a great place to be when you're negotiating w/ an economy multiples larger than you"

HOW IT APPARENTLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE

2. Government lies

3. Press says “Oh no, what now? So confusing! So hard!”

This is one of the biggest stories in America, comparable in scale to what’s happening in Minnesota. The largest social media platform is transferred to Trump’s allies and immediately forbids you from saying anything bad about him. Absolutely totalitarian in nature. No different than China.

I would point out it was the liberals, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris who ran for President on "Trump is a scary authoritarian" while leftists derided them for not reaching out to his supporters and claimed there'd be no big difference between them and Trump.
This whole thread is kind of fascinating to me, because it's predicated on an insurmountable ideological distinction between "liberalism" and "leftism", and then all of the examples he gives are purely arguments about aesthetics, style, emotion, association, rhetoric, etc.

It's telling that Douthat is either too ignorant or too much a propagandist to recognize that the US under Trump has way harsher restriction on speech, elite collusion, and "other expressions of managerial illiberalism" than either Canada or Europe. Plus, you know, all the other nonsense.
fuck. off.

There's a lot to pick apart here, but this line, from an American, is especially galling.

I teach at a law school. And unlike many of my colleagues south of the border, I can do that without a government apparatchik picking through my syllabus in search of wrongthink.

And on the other side are armed officers of the state saying “Boo hoo” and “Fucking bitch.”

And they want you to believe the first side are the domestic terrorists.
Alex Pretti’s last words were “are you ok?” said the woman next to him who ICE also pepper sprayed in the face.
