Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

First a long video, but well worth watching if you have the time.

Not 100% confirmed from yesterday, but said to be from Turkish crew in Novorossiysk where the previous night Ukraine hit the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) offshore terminal.

Scary to be on that vessel.

Welcome to THE daily thread with all the news from the Russia-Ukraine war. It's Sunday 30 November, the final day before winter officially begins.

It's Day 1376 of Russia's illegal, immoral, inhuman full invasion. They're had help: first Iran, then China, then North Korea & now the USA😡

Let's be technical. A Large Language Model is a bullshit machine. Shockingly enough, it turns out unfiltered bullshit is not all that useful in most contexts.

Perry: The pro-Hitler problem with the American right

Instead of Tomahawk missiles, Trump’s envoy Witkoff told Ukraine to ask for a 10-year tariff exemption. “What good is a handful of missiles?” he said. The real plan: turn postwar Ukraine into a business deal, with U.S. firms cashing in and Putin’s terms quietly accepted.

this is an essay on this fucking stupid idea, just hitting the technical issues

it's time to cover this one. what are *your* favourite writeups on why data centres in space are just fucking stupid?
Datacenters in space are a terrible, horrible, no good idea.
There is a rush for AI companies to team up with space launch/satellite companies to build datacenters in space. TL;DR: It's not going to work.
