“…The last thing is slowing them down. I’m not going to be able to go up against armed ICE agents with just my bike, so I’ll just stop traffic. We want to make it so it’s just not worth their while.”

“We’re going to outlast them,” he added. “They can’t sustain this forever.”
I spoke to people who are standing up to ICE - from a real estate appraiser chasing ICE on his bike to a fetish shop owner distributing whistles and an undocumented social worker putting money in detainees’ commissary accounts

"human driver" statistical comparisons are fraught because these AVs only operate on certain roads and in certain conditions, but the important takeaway here is that Teslas are deeply unsafe and should not be on the road
"data suggests Tesla Robotaxis are crashing once every 40,000 miles, whereas the average human driver in the US crashes about once every 500,000 miles"

that's just really really bad sherwood.news/tech/teslas-...
Tesla’s 29 Austin Robotaxis have crashed 8 times since June, as data suggests they perform much worse than human drivers
That’s a lot of crashes for such a small fleet....

CDOT has removed Chicago's first proper 4-way protected intersection for cyclists
An insider told us, despite what Ald. Dowell said, CDOT would *not* remove infra from Chicago's 1st protected intersection at 18th/Wabash in South Loop, and we shared that. But when we stopped by last night, concrete was removed from SW corner. Asking CDOT for more details. Apologies for the mix-up.

We should ban grocery store parking lots that have access across the main entrance. Such a painful experience for pedestrians and drivers alike.
I'm literally shocked no one has posted this monstrosity yet.

Less than 20 spots, parking access crosses the entrance. Someone asked 'how can we Portlandia this TJ the most hilariously?'

Chances this remains unfinished for the next admin?
The White House has put up barriers around the ballroom construction, and told government workers not to share photos without permission.

So if we’re taking our own pictures, they have to be from distance. (I say that as someone who has tried, too, and snapped this from the Washington Monument.)

ProPublica spoke to about 150 people who had lived in homeless encampments when cities cleared them out in “sweeps.”

We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.

The U.S. Justice Department has withdrawn from an agreement with the city of Houston to curb illegal dumping in Black and Latino neighborhoods, part of the Trump administration’s broad dismantling of environmental justice initiatives.
DOJ ends monitoring of illegal dumping in Houston in retreat from environmental justice
Without federal monitoring, advocates in Houston say city officials have become less responsive to residents afflicted by persistent dumping in a historically Black neighborhood.

By right permits to build buildings that are already on the block
Boston's zoning code is broken.

You shouldn't need a slew of variances to build a triple-decker, particularly in a neighborhood where the street already has multiple triple-deckers with identical dimensions.

99% of Boston's residential lots do not comply with current zoning.

My (very) conservative parents love the e-bikes they got after retiring. And we usually agree about road redesign to improve bike/ped safety.
There's a persistent reflex to assume that projects like this are liberally coded, only popular in progressive enclaves. But the actual evidence goes the other way. Liberals aren't the only ones who like to cross the street safely. Conservatives also ride bikes and like to do so without dying.

of course there is a long list of prosecutions that need to happen after 2028 but i think a very high priority if not the highest should be a thorough investigation into every single death in ICE custody

criminal or civil penalties i don't care, there needs to be accountability here
