After two months of absolute madness, December is looking relatively light on releases, especially outside of NY/LA. Then things will get insane again in January and February.

Begging the Academy to find better long term memories so we don't have to play these insane year end logjam games.

"Mumblecore" might be the film genre/style people most blatantly misuse as a label. Could not think of a movie that less resembles Tiny Furniture or The Puffy Chair than Hamnet.
not sure what Gen Z has to do with a 43-year-old’s adaptation of a 52-year-old’s novel—and lest you think it’s just the hed, the piece calls Hamnet “mumblecore Shakespeare, conceived for the TikTok generation,” never mind that mumblecore predates TikTok by like 20 years

Nope. More like displaced refugees... or something... but it's even more mealymouthed about this than the first one. Movie's a pretty big downgrade overall, still does some fun things with the world, but the characters are much more annoying and the plot is less engaging.
So, like, is Zootopia 2 going to be an allegory for undocumented immigration with the reptiles being the immigrants?

Yeah, one of the real flaws with Bluesky is that if you make a post whose message is basically "hey, do the losers at this place still have a stick up their ass about my machine that steals their writing?" it attracts negative responses.

It's a weird glitch, and it's certainly not *your* fault.

I don't understand how anyone can watch how blatantly Grok is manipulated to answer the way ownership desires it to and then act like the other LLM chatbots couldn't possibly be similarly but less obviously compromised to produce responses in whatever way corporate interests and priorities dictate.

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

Maybe don't make a movie that suggests the person on the left is a good good person when they talk and behave like the person on the right for most of the movie.

Recently caught up with the movie 40 Acres, and one scene is bugging me. The film is set in a basically post-apocalyptic future and there's a scene where a teenager shares an old cassette tape with a girl and the song on it is... "Calm Down" by Rema. (1/7)

Sane people: That's extremely dangerous and irresponsible. Didn't you see M3gan?

Techbro: But AI is the future, it's here to stay, don't be a Luddite!

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Yikes. #WickedForGood kinda sucks. A significant downgrade from the first movie which wildly miscalculates the stakes of its own story and resolves its conflicts ins some really bafflingly unsatisfying ways. Seriously, what the fuck was that?

I'm never going to doubt a prediction by Black Mirror ever again. Start preparing for swarms of nanotech bees and for people to have their consciousnesses uploaded into Star Trek pastiches.
For real, check this out. Evil.

This lady also had a part in Materialists, one of a few too many bits of overlap between A24 movies and Dimes Square figures for my liking this year.
"Nekrasova has made controversial statements in the past. In a 2023 New Yorker story, she was quoted as saying, “Francis is not the real Pope, we all know it. … You’re not gonna get rid of the Freemasons. You’re not gonna get rid of the Jews. They infiltrated the Church a long time ago.”"

I hate the Russos but making Marvel movies is the only thing they seem to be good at so it's probably best to just keep them busy with that.
The Russo Brothers will reportedly be overseeing the general story for the next saga of the #MCU after ‘AVENGERS: SECRET WARS’

James Bond is not a “series,” and should not bother with “continuity.” James Bond is something closer to haiku, or twelve-bar blues: a format which can be repeated with endless variations.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Going to guess some AI company paid him to do this and gave him a script with the usual "it's a tool" PR platitudes and he intentionally did a particularly shit job in protest... which isn't an excuse, it's still disgusting, but I feel some need to hope there's more to the story.
