Twentieth-century futurism was largely a project of “don’t worry about the problems of the present. Corporations will build you such a lovely future.”

21st-century futurism has mostly been billionaires and their courtiers whining about the mean environmental movement blocking their cool ideas.

It’s actually wild and disgusting to see so many scientists names in the files who’ve been to the island, who’ve spent time with JE—and these are people I’ve also spent time with and worked with. I don’t know where people’s morals have gone, but clearly they’re easily dissolved by money and power

Utterly unacceptable in a democracy. In a sane world, House Republicans would be drafting impeachment articles today and Senate Republicans would be preparing for a trial to convict and remove him from office

How to end an interview:

In 1889, Frederick Douglass told a visitor to his DC home that any government that would "grant the right of suffrage and deny itself the power to protect that right is...a sham and a fraud."

Then he grabbed his violin and played the Star Spangled Banner.

Years ago, a guy who worked for Gallup called me to complain about how a bunch of right-wing Christian fundamentalists ran the place. Guess the news on the Holy Donald is too bad to keep reporting. Because their explanation is bullshit.
So Trump has one of the worst ever Gallup approval ratings, and now Gallup is going to stop tracking approval? thehill.com/homenews/med...

Cool that people are covering this again. Would be cooler if they’d bothered to read any of the existing work on it (i.e., you know, mine) before getting basic stuff wrong.

can we please stop No True Scotsman-ing Christians

it's all Christianity

the amazing liberatory stuff & the genocidal stuff

we don't need "actual Christianity" to shape our supposedly secular government

we need our government to be just (and to stop equating justice w Christianity, full stop)
But evidently there was one actual Christian in attendance...
wow -- with Trump standing behind him, a man (not sure who he is) offers this prayer: "We pray that he would be mindful of the poor and that he would be invested in the alleviation of suffering happening in the families preparing to bury their loved ones in Minneapolis."
