And I understand it, still; I was a nettled child and I'm a trans woman, so I know the game very well. But it is very galling when an instigator looks you in the eye and swears they are a reasonable person with a reasonable concern. You can see the joy.

Later in life, some of these instigators play the same game; they pick a group, and are as cruel to that group as they can be within the law, in the hope of instigating an illegal or socially unacceptable reprisal that they can sue over.

It is a game to one of the sides, and not the other, since the loser can only ever really be one of the children- the nettled child gets upset at a lack of justice, and in those rare occasions the instigator is corrected in such a way as to end the game, they instead sulk at their ruined fun.
