It is a minor point but, in his later years, and in the family death announcement, he was "Bobby".
Bob Weir, who was a founding member of the Grateful Dead, has died at 78. His songwriting and rhythm guitar playing helped shape the San Francisco band’s sound as it became an American institution. trib.al/kC31x5R

Predawn fire reduces parts of Mississippi's largest synagogue to charred ruins - Mississippi Today
A fire heavily damaged Jackson’s only synagogue before dawn Saturday – the same house of worship that was firebombed by the Ku Klux Klan in 1967 because the rabbi had been an advocate for civil rights...

The only synagogue in Jackson, MS burned last night. It was arson. They've been here before--they were attacked by the KKK because the rabbi spoke in favor of civil rights.

They have no usable torah for services, all burned. Torahs are handmade! If you can donate a bit this week, here's a spot.
For anyone else reading this, feeling helpless, and wondering what they can do: the synagogue has a donation form and I've donated with a note that it's for fire recovery immediate expenses. www.bethisraelms.org

I was today years old when I learned why @emptywheel.bsky.social calls him “Big Dick Toilet Salesman.” Accurate, as always.
Whitaker's prior experience with diplomacy consists of promoting a line of "urinals for well-endowed men" which the DOJ suspected was a fraud scheme. As ambassador he has specialized in not attending or participating in NATO meetings, like those convened after the last wave of Russian drone attacks.

the end of a year is like a sewer.

some see a past filled with crap and regret, foul memories of yesterdays flushed into darkness but not forgotten.

others see it as a transition to something better, a rush towards transformation. Renewal. Opportunity.

both true—

for sewers imitate life.

Anyway, everyone should relax about potential US military action.

As we all learned from SignalGate, there's a robust and well-structured interagency process with explicit, written guidance from the commander in chief regarding the use of military force.
