It SHOULD happen again.

We don't want this kind of creeper surveilance in our lives.

Sometimes I wish for a reporter to ask F1 drivers who reside in Monaco (more than half of the 2025 roster) a simple question: “Do you need to know where the closest food bank is? I assume you pay zero personal income tax because you are in severe financial difficulty”

the other thing I find "funny" about media merger coverage is in addition to NO mention of the well-documented massive harms from pointless media consolidation (creatives, labor, consumers), mainstream journalists don't mention the fact our regulators have been lobotomized by corruption

When the AI bubble pops it’ll have a direct and major negative impact on a significant percentage of the population of the western world.

With maybe two dozen companies and CEOs to blame.

Banks and bankers engaged in the subprime mortgage crisis would win a popularity contest compared to them
plenty of things things could certainly happen that change the story: mass unemployment, stock crash, propaganda campaigns, electricity prices rising

I just don’t think you can confidently predict both that those things will happen and that tech will be widely blamed for them
totally agree, predictions beyond a few months are very tough

Cops killed about the same number of Black people in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020. 2019 was slightly more.

There was another jump in 2021, setting a new record.

2022 higher than 2021. New record.

2023 higher than 2022. New record.

2024 higher than 2023. All time high.

2025 is back down to 2016.

Last week my wife, our one year old son, and me were in the middle of a pedestrian crossing when a driver of a car changed directions (red line on the map), didn’t look around and almost hit us.

I had made a split-second decision and pulled my wife back, otherwise she would have gotten hit.

It’s wild how hard it seems for Austrian journalists to clearly describe road violence. A driver ran over a cyclist and killed her. She didn’t “collide” with a car. The car didn’t move on its own. A driver killed her while she was waiting to turn — high-viz, helmet, lights on.

Sanctions and Ukrainian efforts to blow up oil refineries are working.
In Russia, there was a large protest in Novosibirsk — but not against the war. Russians are protesting against increased taxes and corruption. They are being urged not to tolerate this "horrible robbery," since ‘it was better in the Soviet Union’ and there were no such enormous taxes.

i stopped generally using the term “journalist” to describe what reporters & columnists & editors & anchors & correspondents & producers do some time ago… bc some people will call anyone a journalist who claims to be one when they just don’t operate with any of the expected or necessary standards.

I find the lack of conversation about these border checks, which have become ubiquitous across the EU since 2015, incredibly chilling. At most you get dismissive comments that they are security theater and that they "don't work", and meanwhile new border infrastructure keeps going up.

An opportunity to paint C.J. Cherryh’s catlike Hani was always welcome. I was fortunate to have done several covers for this popular series, yet for CHANUR’S LEGACY I came up with more new concepts than ever before. 1/5

Wish I could dream of EU-wide train/local transport timetable tool, also integrated into most map tools with live status info including route changes.

Where is the future I've been promised.
And when will we even get all Renfe-run trains in one simple to search online timetable tool? 🤔

I really wish these stupid posts about how "Spotify CEO invested in AI drones to kill" would stop.

No, he invested in a drone startup with machine learning, which supplies NATO/Ukraine.

I support that.
