I am gonna make a thread of bus stop signage I see. I’d like to see NJ Transit improve way finding and signage at bus stops and rail stations for buses. This is an example from Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Think we can speculate how far people are willing to walk to/from PATH on JFK using bus rider data for the 10. Never get more than 7 riders getting off the bus until Duncan.

1st number = riders getting on/2nd is getting off.

119 does not stop at Journal Sq so riders don’t come from there.

Yup, in the province of Ontario - drive as you wish. The Progressive Conservative Party has your back and is on your side.

It’s any wonder how 3 pedestrians have been killed in Hamilton in a week. 🤷🏻‍♀️

so our government made a big deal about banning speed cameras but one city left theirs running to see what difference the ban would make and you are not going to believe this

Football players who get paid millions of dollars and often use accountants to help them find every possible way to avoid paying taxes - gave some kids some sneakers. Isn’t that nice?

5th traffic related fatality in Bergen County for November

19-year-old died in a roll over crash.

“Family members who live less than a mile down the highway responded to the scene, according to a witness. Borough police escorted them home, he said.”

From this week's state of NJ newsletter. Maybe we should ban cars from school zones instead of sending crossing guards to a war zone.

Running red lights isn’t “just how NYC works.” It’s deadly.

101 New Yorkers were killed by red-light runners in just three years. Speed limiters, red-light cameras, and fair enforcement are common sense and will make our streets safe for everyone.

Important caveat here: 24/31/44 ridership saw such massive growth because they were taken in during FY24 from Coach USA. For the last few months prior to takeover service ended as early as 5:45 PM and Sunday service was cut entirely; much of that growth is recovery from that poor service.

Roseville Ave Station

This station in Newark’s north ward, at the junction where the Montclair-Boonton Line leaves the M&E main.

One of several urban stations closed in the 80s due to urban decay, this dense working class neighborhood would welcome the economic opportunity of train service to NY.

I completed my final count. Out of 10,511 bus stops, I found that 4,360 (41%) of them could be removed to align with national best practices of 1/4 mile spacing. Long-form explainer article and an interactive map are forthcoming. Green dots are removed stops, black are kept stops.

Zoox has adopted Waymo's technique of using and/or blocking access to bus stops for pickups:

910 Harrison St, San Francisco

Bus stops are convenient bc they are usually unoccupied and relatively large/safe.

Scofflaw as an automated service.

Most transit agencies - advertise a “frequent” network that actually isn’t all that frequent.

NJ Transit - run more than a dozen routes with 12 minute headways or better all day and doesn’t map or advertise it.

1/2 CORRECTION: Mailed applications for mail-in ballots must be received by today—but that means it’s effectively too late to mail an application.
HOWEVER, you can still just go get your ballot in person at the County Clerk’s office, 257 Cornelison Ave., JC, 4th Floor, till Monday, 12/1, at 3 pm.
TODAY is the LAST DAY to apply for a vote-by-mail ballot for the crucial Dec. 2 runoff election, for Jersey City mayor and some Jersey City Council seats. #IBikeIVote

This is counting 20% of how much we'd save from vehicles sitting on traffic jams. To further increase savings we need:
- Very frequent service on major bus and train lines
- Reliable buses with dedicated lanes
- More Park-and-Ride routes
- Transit oriented development
- Traffic pricing policies
Based on estimates from the Philadelphia Parking Authority, traffic analytics, and trucking data, Philly loses $1.08–$3.3B yearly to congestion. Improved public transit could cut over 20% of that, recovering more than $200M annually and boosting productivity.

Here are the ridership numbers for the Newark bus network, the frequent network and other lines that also includes Elizabeth FY24 vs FY25

The 24, which runs between Newark & Elizabeth, has seen a dramatic increase in ridership. The 62 Newark Airport bus is seeing a decline.

Reality: car loan delinquencies are rising as Americans find our brutal and expensive car dependency increasingly unaffordable

Bluesky economists: Look how happy Americans must be with their high levels of income and consumption!
A record number of Americans are behind on their auto loans
Last month, 6.65% of subprime borrowers were at least 60 days late on their car payments. That’s the highest delinquency rate since the 1990s, according to Fitch Ratings.
