I love when you tell people how terrible Newsom is, they're always like, "Well, it's nice to have ideals, but if it comes down to him or the Nazi in the general, *I* am going to vote for him"

WE'RE TELLING YOU HOW TERRIBLE HE IS NOW SO IT'S *NOT* A CHOICE BTW HIM & A NAZI, CARL. THAT'S THE POINT.

🚨WHOA. The El Paso Medical Examiner says it will rule the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man at ICE's "Camp East Montana" tent camp as a homicide.

He was allegedly choked to death by a guard during a "struggle" after he refused to enter a housing unit without his medications.

I think that people don’t comprehend that the state has been unapologetically beating young people’s asses basically nonstop & charging us with massive crimes for protesting since at least Occupy Wall Street & growing up like that has a chilling effect on the way people engage with democracy

Kind of, yes
So, just to be clear, the doomer position is that we are *not* about to begin WWIII and that we Americans are going to have to restrain and defeat Donald Trump ourselves, while the optimistic position is that WWIII may and should happen and that many people will die.
Doomcasting based on vibes. Bad practice in such moments.

Asking the ICE agent beating a guy up on the pavement to hold still so I can scan his QR code that he was required to wear instead of a badge that can simply be read
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

THREAD. This can be an important educational moment for progressive people who don't work in or study the punishment bureaucracy. Having spent 20 years in it--and just publishing a book on exactly this topic--I can say that reality works in the opposite way that Jamelle assumes.
maybe an unpopular position on this website but i think the moderate dem focus on ICE training can be, with political pressure, the pathway to more fundamental reforms. rhetorically it is not too hard to move from “more training” to “turns out they’re untrainable and we have to start all over.”

This is 10th-grader Arnoldo Bazan.

A citizen.

Immigration agents grabbed him and put him in a chokehold.

"We're from the United States bro!' he screamed.

Agents took and sold his phone

And when he finally got home hours later, his shirt was ripped, he neck had angry, red welts, and he sobbed.

Hey for the record, “Trump is going to do whatever he wants and ignore congress anyway” is an argument against incrementalism, not for it.

Why are you scaling back the size of the ask in that scenario, other than to show off the pitiful limits of your own imagination
