1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

My partner (a man) sent me home with cheesecake and a drill. Multiple people have now made lesbian jokes. This is the only kind of man I like.

It’s hard to focus on one thing to be appalled about, but these stories out of Minnesota are awful. (And, of course, on the other hand, very encouraging.) I cannot believe you can wrongly grab somebody, transport them, and then leave them where YOU took them.
From FB regarding Pizza Luce in Minnesota.

I like it when I can do something to help people displaced by ICE and then after I do that thing I get to eat a pizza.

Fuck any and all ICE agents, but it's good to know they're tired and annoyed.
“I think it’s time to pull out of Minnesota, that battle is lost," a Border Patrol agent said in a private chat I obtained:

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.

There is no reforming ICE with "better training."

There is no reforming cops, or the United States government, which was founded on a genocide and has continued its state-sanctioned violence to this very moment.

Abolish ICE, abolish police, abolish all this shit. There is no reforming this.

Federal agents were assaulting women: striking them, shoving them to the ground, pepper spraying them.

Alex Pretti acted in solidarity with those women rather than in loyalty to other men who had strength of arms and state power. A betrayal to white supremacist patriarchy he was murdered for.

Alex Pretti "used to tell people off when they made sexist comments to female physicians. He bought me coffee when I had a really bad day as an intern...I laughed alongside him daily. He made a point to teach medical residents without judgement, but with a smile on his face and a joke."

This is a delight.
I confide that I’ve been thinking a lot about Dick Van Dyke lately and even had a romantic dream about him.

“Dick as he is now or like when he was young?” my husband asks.

“Now.”

“Sounds more like a nightmare.”

Merriam-Webster's thesaurus is my favorite/preferred/favored/choice/beloved thesaurus.
Today is National Thesaurus Day.

Personally, we find these made-up holidays contemptible, abhorrent, nauseating, repugnant, and unpalatable.

Polymarket should only sell things like extra sets of sheets, planners, and nonmonogamous greeting cards that say things like, "You're one of the loves of my life."

My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.

I can't describe how bad Minneapolis feels right now. My neighbors are pulling kids out of school. The public schools are offering remote learning until 2/12. We are having conversations in our alleys about how to protect ourselves. It feels like a military occupation with a blockade.
The US Department of Agriculture suspends all federal funding to Minnesota, effective immediately.

A Black man named Keith Porter was shot and killed by an ICE officer on New Year’s Eve.

Marimar Martinez was shot five times by an ICE officer in Chicago who went on to brag about leaving seven holes in her body.

This is not new but it is expanding.
Your reminder that what happened to Renee Nicole Good is something that happens regularly in America. This is not new, but it is an expanded version of militarized people targeting Black people in particular.

From ICE detention to murder with impunity, we've been doing it. Now it's broadened.

Similar to when my eleven year old makes eye contact with me like, "You see this shit?" when the eight year old is behaving badly, then immediately behaves badly himself.
The 7-year-old, after watching me (unsuccessfully) negotiate w the 2-year-old for several minutes: “It’s tough having a baby like that.”
