Yesterday the students in one of my classes discussed this excellent 2018 article by historian Chris Bonner which opens with this incredible story of direct action from 1837 that, sadly, hits especially hard in 2026.

In 1854, after watching the federal government deploy 2000 federal troops and spend $40,000 sending Anthony Burns back into slavery, Boston's Amos Adams Lawrence said “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.”
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social

When I tell people there is nothing like Texas politics: Here, we have the governor's top advisor attacking the frontrunner in the typically sleepy race for Texas comptroller over a "secret land deal" to purchase Jeffrey Epstein's New Mexico mansion, where state officials now want to dig for bodies.

“When Citizens United was decided in 2010, billionaires had spent $18 million on the 2000 election, $13M 2004 and $16M in 2008. Then came the deluge. In 2012 it was $231M, and nearly doubled again in next three election cycles —to $682M in 2016, $1.2 billion in 2020 and $2.6 billion in 2024.” Gift:

Undiluted sadism.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

I'm all for pardons and second chances. But it's a hell of a juxtaposition to pardon millionaire NFL players convicted of drug distribution while you're summarily executing impoverished fishermen making a few hundred bucks to shuttle drugs around the Caribbean.

Trump pardoned Klecko, Nate Newton, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry and the late Billy Cannon for crimes ranging from perjury to drug trafficking.

I still think Paul is a tool, but this libertarian point is valid, and grounded in our history.
Rand Paul: "I see not even a hint here of anything aggressive on [Pretti's] part. I don't think this should take months and months. There needs to be a conclusion ... the public needs to know, if I go to a protest and shout something at people, could I be killed?"

Yes, by all means, Democrats, whatever you do, in the middle of Trump's SOTU speech, DO NOT stand up and yell, "QUIET PIGGY," unless you want to be the frontrunner for the 2028 presidential nomination.

Said at whips meeting this AM to either sit in "silent defiance" or boycott altogether, sources told @axios.com

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

maybe that’s changing
