What I'm saying is that the Republicans in the House and Senate who refuse to impeach are just as guilty of his crimes as he is and we should treat them as such. They are not legitimate opposition. Their votes should no longer count. They should face trial as accessories

i think this is what drives me nuts. people talk about how, say, the UN was founded by "starry eyed idealists" who didn't understand "reality." the truth is that the UN was founded by those who had just fought and *won* the bloodiest war in human history.

The lack of municipal ownership of major sports teams is a sign of how perennially weak the left really is, because it's the area where the case for public control is among the strongest.

ok sorry so what does this actually mean: it means that unless someone is starting their analysis of saving american democracy by focusing on the oligarchy, i don’t really care what else they have to say. it’s like someone talking about basketball without mentioning the 3-point line.

Yes. This is it. Some people believe their politics; other people adopt politics as an excuse to hurt other people for fun and tell themselves it’s for a good cause and they can’t be blamed.

The internet has let all the people in the latter group find each other and make better rationalizations.
I often think the real ideological divide online is not really ideology by whether politics exists as a permission structure for behaviour or not

Basically if you’re gonna get mad, make it about something real. Your body remains tense with anger long after your mind has realized its justification has dissolved.

My doomer-worry about AI is not that the LLMs become omnipotent and take over the world but that the wealthy and powerful use it as a means to consolidate power and marginalize or lay off skilled workers and also everything about our technological and political and social life gets worse

Remember when "America has many groups of people in it and that's good and makes us strong" was an uncontroversial - even cliched - viewpoint that was universally endorsed across the political spectrum?

We can go back! We just have to get rid of the tiny handful of bitter, angry men in the way.

The fact that Bad Bunny's halftime show made white bigots angry and feel excluded is A GOOD THING. It's one of the best things about it. It's not a problem to solve. It's a solution to pursue. Bigots *should* feel excluded. We should find *more* ways to celebrate the reality of USian diversity.
