I don't usually post the links to the permit cards, but these are kinda interesting as not all (most?) companies were nearly this conscientious about pulling permits. 4 cards, front and back, is pretty unusual in my research

Seattle grunge band Pearl Jam helped pay for the Two Harbors Youth Hockey Association’s new Zamboni.
What do you call an ice-resurfacing machine partly funded by a ’90s grunge band? A Pearl Jamboni, of course.

My aunt once got super drunk while cooking for Thanksgiving. We all made faces when we tasted each dish, because there was this weird flavor. She said, "I made everything with eggnog instead of milk, genius, right?" Gravy, potatoes, dressing, EVERYTHING

IT WAS NOT GENIUS

My mom once tried a "Peruvian Chicken" recipe in a magazine that sounded interesting for a dinner with the whole family.

We got to the "add 1 chipotle pepper in adobo" instruction and could not fathom "Just 1" when the can was so small. "Do they mean 1 CAN? Must be."

Nuclear Peruvian chicken.

I would just like to say that when you are tasked with the turkey, it is best to make sure you have set your stove to bake and not broil. Especially if you are going to leave it baking unattended. In Florida. With the windows open. You know, so you can see the smoke rolling out when you get home.

As of 2022, still there and still looked delightfully like a gingerbread house. Slightly different colors, though they could just be sun faded.

Based on a bit of research, if I had to guess this was fundraising for the Ohio River floods of 1937. They were really bad, over a million made homeless. Something like 70% of Louisville was under water, and some other towns had it worse.

Wrecked in 1980 and replaced by what looks like a new church building.

Interestingly, the permit card had the wrecking of this building on it but there's no card for the new building. Presumably it's in the computer-based system they were rolling out around this time

I can't decide whether the number of people I know of who had major life-altering events happen as a result of MUDs or MUSHes or what have you is shockingly high, or unsurprisingly high

Like, for such a niche community it sure impacted a lot of us HARD

This whole thread.

They won’t accept you unless you force them to.
The myth is circulating again that it was more radical otg activists and assimilationist gays ("boots and suits") teaming up that was responsible for queer communities' gains late '60s on.

The history doesn't back this up. What actually happened is more revealing. 🧵

Let's start with Stonewall...

Morton, Washington

The mushroom cloud rose to the south, blotting out the sky and the sun. As it climbed higher, it drifted closer—then came the fallout. Mudballs and ash rained from the sky.

When it was over, the town lay under a thin gray grit. The cleanup would take weeks.

The pictures in the UPS crash preliminary report are just horrifying. Knowing there was nothing the pilots could do and seeing photos of just how *fucked* they were (the engine separated just as they took off and damaged the center engine as well) are two different things
Final report in 18mos or so

Performed tonight, and it was not one of my best nights. I had basically zero chemistry with two of the other performers and am still a little brain foggy from being sick last week. Ah, well. Seeing friends afterwards was great!

It's looks like this was knocked down in 1936. There's a note on the permit card that says the Fair Oaks apartments went up in its place.

Why is it harder to get a replacement card sent with the same number, to the same address as on file, than it is to get a whole new card? Siiiigh.

Aw fuck, the Lagoon Cinema appears to be going to a Sheriff's foreclosure auction, per Axios.

I don't give two shits about the office buildings, except that maybe they can be put to better use, but I really really hope someone buys and keeps the Lagoon open. We need more indie theaters, not fewer.

I watched X-Men (2000) with the youngest today, and they pointed out how the dudes didn't look like steroid addicts. Even Wolverine didn't as roided out as the *baseline* of future superhero films (or a lot of other Hollywood films).

Later this week, we'll discuss one of the most, erm, visible pop culture artifacts of the 1980 eruption.

A former lawyer from Portland's dream, aided by an infamous documentarian, featuring a former TV actor whose career was reinvigorated by an Oscar six years earlier.
