Over 1,000 Ubisoft workers around the world have walked off the job.

In response to a return-to-office mandate, layoffs, and the cancellation of several games, workers launched a three-day strike.

The workers walked out in response to five French unions issuing the strike call.
Ubisoft workers are on strike: 'We are treated like children'
The strike comes after the publisher revealed plans to cut up to 200 jobs and ordered remote workers back into the office

Great blog I am going to use as an entryway into another gripe: biphobia is a real, mainly intracommunity issue, but bi women do have specific dangers specific to their marginalization. biphobia is not when a queer woman says that a narrative that was once open to queer reads is now comphet.

Gallup announces, after 88 years, it will no longer track public approval of presidents. Trump's second-term approval rating fell to 36% in December, among the lowest ever recorded by the company. The president repeatedly has threatened to sue media and polling firms that portray him negatively.

This is a big deal. Approval polls, like the media, courts, and Congress, can serve as vehicles for presidential accountability. We are watching in real time as the institutions that could hold this administration to account wither on the vine.

I will say, there is something in how this reactionary political movement nationalizes southern plantation cultural production to enact their fascist plan to break nation-states into corporately controlled economic zones. Talk about the afterlives of slavery. Whew.

When a sitting representative refers to the Super Bowl halftime show as “pornography,” people should use that to reflect on how they and other representatives are simultaneously working to ban, censor, and restrict “pornography” and what that actually means

A reminder: this is an Irishman with valid papers speaking about how he's being held in US concentration camps. If you don't have to go to the US, do not go to the US. "GDC" is not "have to go". One denial at the border is going to mark you for life, and that's the best of the bad outcomes.
"A modern-day concentration camp ... People have been killed by the staff here." Irish citizen Seamus Culleton has been in ICE detention since September, despite having a valid work permit and his own business in the US.

i'm not giving them my personal info.

the idea that making art is embarrassing if you don't do it well enough to make a career out of it is an objectively harmful and toxic brainworm.
An opinion I pretty firmly hold is that everyone should make a song, paint a painting, act in something, and write a book even if all of those things end up being objectively terrible

Because it’s actually a front for AIPAC dark money. And they’re doing everything they can to buy my race:

The majority of slop is also not directly human-prompted, but is used to destabilize information environments with nullformation. Slop matters as an epistemic weapon. It does not respond to collective taste so much as attack the aggregation and assessment of collective aesthetic demands.
Yes: let's assert our expertise as humanists in assessing slop as a new aesthetic category.
But: I'm surprised this (fascinating!) essay (by many I love!) argues that slop is demand-driven w/o detailing the platform economy Big Tech context in which slop must produce clicks. Much demand is coerced.
