These cases continue to arise, reminding there’s seemingly no ‘correct’ way to dispose of pregnancy remains that will protect us from criminal investigation—not while abortion bans and fetal personhood laws exist:

man ... lying under oath really ought to be a crime, you know?
The acting director of ICE told Congress, under oath, that local law enforcement in Colorado leaked raid plans, allowing gang members to escape.

After 9NEWS questioned ICE's claim and its timeline, ICE deleted the claim from its social media platforms.

The way Schumer is licking his lips and swallowing nervously here …

It‘s almost as if he’s realizing his whole worldview since 2016 is being turned upside down against his will. Gulp gulp.
Schumer: "Every other police department in America is unmasked. ICE can do the same. This is a rogue force. They are almost trained it looks like to be nasty and mean and cruel."

It's unchartered, but we can see the terrain: the territory ahead includes masked secret police taking people to concentration camps but not new vaccines. That's our reward for a system in which fewer than 20 people, all of them deranged and malicious, control over $3 trillion.
The pace at which US wealth concentration is rising is simply staggering

The concentration of AI wealth into the hands of a few tech barons + plutocratic capture ==> unchartered territory

Opposition research is a good thing. That's how democracy is supposed to work.
He even tries to almost paint the guy as a complete victim of "opposition research" as though how we maybe found out he had an *actual Nazi tattoo* is more relevant than the thing itself.

Ask yourself: why would this administration want to delete references to Medgar Evers’ racist assassin being a racist? Why might that be?

I challenge anyone in this administration or Congress to defend this.

Among anticipated changes to a new visitor brochure for the Medgar & Myrlie Evers Home National Monument is no longer using "racist" to describe the killer of the civil rights leader.

Andrew McCarthy on the DHS's policy of being brutal so as to encourage self-deportation: "In terrorem policies can be very effective — they’re why the Romans crucified lawbreakers along the Appian Way. But the American way is to promote the rule of law, not to intimidate by the rule of cruelty."

The administration may appeal the latest decision and might well win. But its conduct has conveyed weakness in several respects.

We’re trained to shrug off the deaths of our impoverished neighbors, a dynamic central to maintaining this system in which all wealth is funneled to the top. At what point, though, do the regime’s catastrophic increases in energy, food, & insurance costs make this “common sense“ violence impossible?

I honestly don’t know. But where I disagree with Dem leadership is this: I don’t think constantly calling today’s Republicans reasonable and responsible is costless.

And “winning the news cycle” matters less in a fractured media environment with a White House that doesn’t care about most Americans.

DC conventional wisdom says to “win the shutdown” politicians need to be seen as reasonable, with the other party unreasonable.

But when that conventional wisdom settled in, winning meant “winning the news cycle,” which impacted polls, making politicians feel public pressure.

Is that still viable?

When Democratic leaders say Republicans will be reasonable and go along with Dems’ common sense proposals, that’s not because they expect the GOP to, but because they’re setting up “Republicans are the unreasonable ones.”

Though it’s an open question if bankshots like that fit the political moment.

Shock around Rubio speech seems a variation of same delusion that led legacy media to inaccurately declare it a softer touch, as if Rubio, a Latino man who once disputed Trumpism, is an alternative voice. He’s not. He joined fascism; now he’s a fascist; he gave a fascist speech, because fascism.

This, among many other fine attributes, is what makes Anthony an excellent scholar. He is always willing to ask "why" when considering issues, following the answers wherever they might go.
This kind of historical work is hard because it requires careful attention to sources beyond the four corners of the statutes. How were the statutes enforced, if at all? What motivated new laws?

He repeatedly misstates the relationship between the Statutes of the Realm and the common law.

I enormously appreciate this thread and the author’s clear explanation of why and how our language matters (always and especially) when opposing fascism, white supremacy, etc.

It is also not something we should be using on right wingers. Why?

Well, not because I am worried about their feelings. Because there’s tons of research showing that if you start using dehumanizing language even ironically, it becomes easier and easier to access.
